Arleen,
It's been said, "If you fail to prepare you will prepare to fail. It's a necessary part of every teachers job.

Jennifer,
Good point. Even though they may not say they like having class start on time and having a full class session, students do notice when a teacher is lax or unprepared for class. It's a unusual paradox. But our obligation to the student is to be ready at the start of class, resources gathered, handouts, and copies made, and a clear plan laid out for the class.

I think it is very important to be organized for class because when you are not the students feel unsure of your ability to teach the material. They come to class, I feel, ready to be taught something and when their instructor is fumbling around and not prepared they become less focused on the materail and more on the "crazy" instructor.
Shannon,
Right, students generally do expect their instructor to have it all together. They see their teacher as the facilitator that will help them achieve successfulness in their classes. Students will respect and trust teachers who put in the necessary planning, time and effort to make the class effective.
Barry Westling
I feel an instructor should be organized and prepared to teach because some students look for those qualities in their instructor. As an instructor, knowing that I am organized and prepared to teach helps educate students to the best of my ability. Students will obtain the most knowledge from an organized and prepared instructor. Students will be more respectful of this type of instructor.
anthony,
We are leaders whether we want that role or not. I feel we do owe the student the courtesy of of our preparation, full attention, and effort to get them from point A to point B in the various topics we're assigned to teach.

This not only shows respect for your students, but also shows them the meaning of dependability, and responsibility in the work place. We have to be the leaders of setting these examples.
Jon,
Yes, students will pick up quickly if a teacher lacks confidence or competence in the subject matter. Preparation takes time, effort and careful thought for meaningful lessons to emerge.
Barry Westling
Being organized and prepared is essential because a teacher's self confidence will be negatively impacted if she feels she may not be prepared and ready to meet any question or challenge. Students are perceptive and will lose confidence in a teacher who is lacking in confidence or preparation.
Phuong,
Yes, teachers are often viewed as role models yet we need to be committed to organizing our daily lessons and preparing regardless how our students like what we do. Our job is to provide a sound learning experience and that doesn't happen by accident - rather by effort, time, and careful thought and planning.
Barry Westling
As a role model that is the most important role is to let the student see that you are on top of things
Kori,
Teachers are role models by default. Therefore, we assume the role with diligence and resonsibilty.

Paula,
Yep! They watch and learn. Too bad they would be as observant in all of their studies, eh?
Barry Westling
Paula,
Sure - it's an old axiom that's been around for a long time. I am not aware of any copyrights. But it's the meaning in the message that's important, and as you say, we set the tone for what our degree of successfulness will be (failure vs fulfillment).
Barry Westling
Paula,
In my experience, it has been difficult not to keep the interest of a group when the presenter/facilitator/teacher is enthusisastic, upbeat, interesting, and makes the presentation enjoyable.
Barry Westling
Paula,
Right. This order of organization will assure that all the peices fit and a better chance student learning outcomes will be met.
