By organizing and prepareing for the class, it showes how prepared the teacher is and this will help to decresa anxitey and fustration to the teach mostly new teachers

Gary,
Another aspect of preparation is that when prepared, we have the ability to be effective in our instruction and achievement of learning objectives our students need.

Not only does it show the students you are prepared, it also shows that you care. By being prepared the instructor shows the students that he/she has taken the time and effort to provide them with the best information they need for the class(es) they are taking. The Instructor is also setting an example for being prepared for class just as they need to be.

Tatiana,
Students will appreciate and respect an instructor they feel is prepared, oirganized and knows their material. We want them to feel like they are in the midst of someone who can help them with their studies, in their journey to job readiness.

Mary,
I agree that we serve as a role model of sorts. Mainly, we have to demonstrate the competence and confidence to students to convey they are safe in our hands as we guide them in their studies.

Bev,
I think a great way to begin ongoing classes is to begin with a quick review of the previous period material. I think instructors know what they want to do and accomplish, but students are often lost in the maze of information. We can help them by providing a compass of "here is where we're at".

I am tottaly with you. I think it is important for any instructor to be prepare. You want your student to be prepare for class. You as an instructor have to be prepare for them as well.

It is always good to be prepared as well as organized because the students look at the instructor as a roll model for them. They pay very close attention to what you do and say, so don't be caught off guard.Always be prpared for the unexpected. The key is to prepare your students for the real world. Be mindful of how you present yourself to them. You can't tell them to do something that you don't even do yourself.

Megan,
Good points. The classroom and our students make for a very dynamic environment. Providing the daily course information and materials does require we map out all we want to do beforehand, expecting that things will lkely change a bit as we move along. Yes, a good back-up plan is essential as our plans can get sidetracked by all sorts of interruptions, and by planning for changes we can seamlessly move from one topic or activity or another in stride.

Megan,
Yes, and the best way to look prepared is to be prepared. Taking time, effort and planning for each class pays divideneds in terms of appreciation, trust and respect from students. Failure to do so can result in less than desirable results.

I feel it sets the "tone" for class. If I walk in and I have no idea where to begin, They may follow my lead and have NO idea "where to begin". I start each class with a review of last class, and what we will do in this class.

Organization is key to success for it paves the way for the rest of class. First impressions are truly relevant and if I'm not prepared, how can I expect my students to be? I was always taught to be over prepared and have two or three game plans if the first one fails. That is good planning.
Megan

I agree! Many times I see new teachers overwhelmed in the hallways and I think back to my first year and cringe. It is a tough road if you are not enthusiastic and prepared for the worse case senario. I always say that if I don't look the part, how can I be the part.
Megan

David,
Confidence n the instructor is important. Any instructor who fails to prepare is preparing to fail. Our job reqiures preparation and students expect that.

Barry Westling

because if he isnt the students might not have confidence in him and his abilities to teach. first impressions count

Meagan,
I think when we are prepared, classes run smoother, are better organized, and students benefit by better retention of needed information.

Insturctors set an example for students of what it means to be a professional in their chosen career field. Additionally, when you are organized and prepared, it gives you confidence in dealing with student issues.

Tawnya,
Absolutely!I believe a minimum expectatation students have is that their instructor will be in classs everyday, materials ready, resources gathered, copies made, equipment set-up (as applicable), and available to answer questions beforehand. And they expect an organized, logical flow to the class topics. Anything less is simply unacceptable.

Barry Westling

I set an example for my students of professionalism. Being prepared and organized is part of being a professional. Also, it makes the flow of my class run smoothly if I know ahead of class what will be due, what I am lecturing on etc. It also eases my students my minds that there will be no surprises. They can have confidence that I will follow the predetermined plan to the 't'.

Adrienne,
If I pay to go to a class and the teacher is late, unprepared, appears incompetent, insincere, or does not convey confidence, I begin to wonder about that individual's ability to help me learn.
