From my past experience, I didn't always know when an instructor was organized, but I certainly knew when he wasn't. When he wasn't organized, there was a credibility disconnect - what can I really trust about this instructor - are his instructions as sloppy as his preparation?

Joseph,
Great. When students see their instructor is serious about the class instruction, that does a lot to guarantee students will be mo0re attentive and interested in learning.

As the instructor, you are setting the example of professionalism, education and experience for your students. Being organized and prepared tell the class that you're serious about teaching and that you care about their learning experience.

Edwin,
We can be models of professionalism, practicing what we preach, everyday!

An older Instructor told me "If your early - your on time, if your on time - your late, and if your late your fired!" It's a matter of professionalism, Be early, be prepared to teach and be organized to their is no brake-up in the flow of your presentation and/or lab schedule. It all comes down to personal integrity - and it shows. The students recognize it and respect you for it.

Cassandra,
Both competence and confidence are improved in a setting where the instructor has taken measures to be organized and prepared.

I have found out the hard way as a new instructor that preparation is everything. I was teaching as an adjunct and had little time to prepare for classes with the responsibilities of another job. It created stress as to how to properly teach in the time allotted. As a full time instructor, I have more time to be prepared and it has made a world of difference.

Cassandra

Amir,
Part of my feeling of being ready comes with knowing I have everything prepared, tested, and materials in order, and this helps me feel more confident in conducting the class.

orginizing and preparing for class saves class time and helps thing to go smooter.

Hossai,
Controlled classroom settings are usually the result of well planned and organized instructors who've taken the time and effort to ready themselves for the daily lessons.

Reza ,
True, role models we can be to our students while building trust and respect.

An organized instructor gives the student an example of a successful person in his career and encourages them to follow the same behavior. It also buys the instructor the student thrust so the students believe that this instructor knows how to teach this subject.

we are the role models for these students.if we are prepared and organized then the day goes smoothly and more controled...

Nastassia,
I agree and think that students look to their instructors for guidance and direction. Solid planning accompanied by good organization will likely provide tose necessary steps in the building of dynamic class lessons.

Lito,
The fact is, work is work. As professional educators we have a responsibility to to do our work, and to strive to do it well. That said, preparing basic materials and organizing lessons should be at the minimum level of readiness. Putting in extra time to make or presentation and delivery dynamic may take more time. But if we care, we will do what's needed on behalf of our students

Being organized and prepared are always vital to meeting outcomes, regardless of what the task is. It is very important when you are organized and prepared for each class for several reasons; the students will respect you for the time you have spent organizing your material and preparing for your lecture presentation, they will be more likely to do the same - organize and prepare for your classes (reciprocating your effort), and it will make for an unforgetable experience for both the instructor and the students when everyone is engaged in the subject being presented.

Being prepared for each class shows the students that a teacher takes his job seriously and respects students and their motivation to come in to class and learn.
Also a teacher, who is organized, tidy, always prepared and exudes confidence, can become a great positive role model for his students and will motivate them to be as organized and diligent in their studies too.

Lauren,
This is very aggresive by the institution, but I can see few drawbacks to getting to class early, even if mandated to do so.

Barry Westling

Our school has taken this concept one step forward. It is mandated that instructors show up 5 to ten minutes before class begins. If we fail to do this we are written up. This mandate gives me the opportunity to layout the handouts and write the objectives on the board.

Richard,
I agree that the classroom can serve as a surrogate for the work setting in many ways. Being ready "for work" can set the tone for the class as one that is geared for learning needed information to secure solid employment.
