Constructing learning objectives is important because it provides the framework for the creation of lesson planning. In order for objectives to be achieved, lesson plans must be framed properly with a strong and diverse variation of teaching methods. Doing such ensures that learning objectives are achieved.
Tool to ensure students are receiving all necessary content in order to pass Boards
The objectives are helpful to both the student and instructor. The instructor can use the objectives as tools and guidelines to ensure the students are learning important aspects of the course. The students can review the objectives to make sure they are learning the information.
Marshall,
How has your newfound understanding of learning objectives impacted your approach to planning course content for your students?
Tremayne Simpson
As the facilitator it helps me to stay on track with the proper activities in the classroom to further the learning of students. Learning objectives help to streamline and provide coherence to the instructional environment. It also helps with the buy-in of the students on the value of the material.
Ok. What I"m thinking now is that when i've looked up lesson plans on line, I've seen mostly vague learning objectives, and that has confused me.
now I'm looking objectives with the A-B-C-D method and the Taxonomy of Learning from Bloom, and I believe that learning objectives are important because they help students understand what they are about to learn. Giving the the objective, clearly defined, gives them the point that they are going to reach, and helps them reach there. When we leave our house in the morning, we have a place to go, we don't just wonder around. This is the same as the objectives.
But I think the objectives can also build student security.
Jim,
I agree with your observation. In many cases, students can list course learning objectives on their resumes, in order to define specific skill sets.

I have very high expectastions of my students. They must pre-read the text to survive. Having done so, they know what the plan for the will be. Those who do not pre-read, flounder.
The learning objectives are an important part of preparing students to be successful in the work world. The employer expects and requires the employee to have a basic set of skills and the knowledge to use those skills in performing the work to be accomplished. The skills and knowledge come, in part, from the learning objectives of the various courses that are part of the educational experience.
Michael,
This is a great method for ensuring that your students understand the importance of learning objectives. As I mentioned earlier in the post, students need to understand the "connections" that exist between the planned course content and the objectives of the class. Constant repetition of this process, will only provide an emphasis for the students.
Tremayne Simpson
Learning objectives should provide the student with an overall outline of the important parts of the course and of their relevance to important skills in the workplace. I often use the syllabus to state which course objectives will be stressed in each class period. A verbal repetition and/or note on the board also reminds the student's of the day's focus.
Sherri,
I agree. In addition, it is important that the learning objectives are revised whenever there is a new edition of the textbook, because some of the elements may be lost in the newer edition.
Tremayne Simpson
The learning objectives are the core elements based on the concepts for each chapter in the book. The objectives should reflect how the students acquired the knowledge for that class.
It is a recipe for success. All of the ingredients have a role and serve a purpose for consistant and effective education.
Pearl,
This is a great practice for your students. Also, it gives you an opportunity to clarify objectives, in which the students have trouble understanding. If time permits, you can review the learning objectives in the final course section and discuss how they were accomplished.

Kevin,
Although it is a cumbersome activity, I find that it is also important to list the accompanying learning objective on the project/activity guidelines sheets. This allows the student to understand the importance of that activity and how it relates to the learning outcomes of the course.
Tremayne Simpson
Kevin,
How do you communicate the daily lesson plans to your students?
Tremayne Simpson
Jeremiah,
I agree. It is a good idea to assign an activity/project for your students that will enable them to undertand the correlation of course expections and student learning outcomes. They should also be able to understand the sequences of courses in a program of study and how they relate to their career goals.
Tremayne Simpson
I write out objectives on the board every day to help the students stay on track.
studends need objectives for the day to see what is the days leason plan , to help them be better prepaired for the days learning.
