1) Power Point Presentations - which I am currently working on to build a library from the actual text material.
2) Colors to highlight different relevant points of the material. I like the idea of using colors for the different topics, that way they associate the colors and when they do recall, they access their memory and the color is the key code to the content.
3) Do a brainstorming exercise and write the answers on the board. I would probably prefer to write all the answers and then use time to narrow things down to the top 3 or 5 best answers, depending on group size.
5) Actually watching a movie or short clip of relevent material is also very helpful.

Include powerpoint presentations with graphics, recommend books that have pictures specifying parts or sections of the subject matter, Videos showing the phenomena or providing examples. Perform demonstrations of the phenomena if suitable.

Visual learners understand more from viewing specifics about a subject rather than reading or hearing about it. The use of media is a great way to drive the objective home. A mix for images, videos and words (short and sweet) will stick in their minds.
Power points, posters, instructional videos, lab time, if it can be incorporated, and additional resource books can all be used to enhance teaching to a visual learner.
Hi Melissa, I was in a training seesion today that advised the same thing! I love outlines!

I like to write out an outline of my lecture on the board so my visual students can follow along.
Hi Tamikah, Thanks for your post to the forum. Isn't You-Tube a terrific resource?? Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

I have incorporated some you-tube videos or case studies videos related to what the subjective matter we are going over in class that day.
Visaul learners are use to seeing a visual on what they are going to work on for that day.
Then they can apply what they learned hands-on.
The colored markers are a good idea, I am going to start using them.
Hi Angela, That's a great mix of materials!

Using a variety of teaching tools for visual learners, not just the overhead or power point.
When instructing visual learners I use the white board and use different colored markers most often, as well as hand outs, videos and sometimes flow charts.
Hi Marilyn, Thanks for your post to the forum. Really good idea to also print the PPT notes pages for students. Moving around the classroom is really a good practice! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

Powerpoint is good for visual learners and it also helps give the entire class a reference point so everyone benefits.I move around the room and walk by each students trying to catch their eye.
Hi Carol, Thanks for your post to the forum. You are using ppts really effectively!

I've seen the power point comments often in this thread and I have to agree. I'm glad to see it because there are some that think this is too old school. Because of that, I've tried to get away from it. But honestly, in both college and public school, I use the powerpoints to drive the lesson; it helps the pacing and it serves as a reminder to me of where I'm going so I don't get too far off track. Students like the visual; they can copy any notes (or I can give them the powerpoint FOR notes) and I also embed videos into them so I don't have to go hunting for them or have several windows open at the same time.
Oh my goodness. That is an excellent idea.
Thank you! I've used the board as a last resort and it honestly never occurred to me that I could use my markers to comment as I go!
