The instructional style I use most is the powerpoint that includes pictures and short videos. There is usually written content as well but here I like to play with some of the key written terms making them grow larger or move to accentuate them. These techniques work well with Visual Learners.

As a first-time instructor, all of this information will be very useful and valuable! I, myself, am a visual learner, and look forward to incorporating all of these ideas of pictures, diagrams, charts, and even short how-to-videos into my presentations. Thanks for the great ideas and information!
Hi William - Thanks for sharing some great ideas for creating dynamic classroom presentations. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

Use a variety of visual techniques that engage the students. As an example, PowerPoint slides may be a good way of structuring material for a class. Next I would embed short clip videos as examples that accentuate a topic or point within the class. Another technique is to use real-life demonstrations. This might be applicable for mechanical or process types of activities. As the teacher moves from one technique to the next, a discussion (although not visual) would engage the students. As the teacher, I would then try and capture/summarize responses on a white board so that the students can then visualize how those responses fit into the structure of the class and contribute to the learning objectives.
Hi Shannon, Thanks for your post to the forum. It is amazing how much visual material is available for us to use in our classes! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

When learning with visual learners you want to make sure you have things that they can look at. Videos, PowerPoints, pictures, graphs, etc... are all good ways to get the visual learner to retain the information provided.
I am new at being an instructor so I was teaching a preventative maintenance class and we went out on the floor and worked on exsiting machines (CNC machine tools) such as leveling, greasing, inspection of belts, etc.
Visual learners like to see what you are teaching. For instance a power point or prezi allows for them to see colorful slides, words, and video on the subject matter that you are presenting.
Hi Deanna, Thanks for your post to the forum. I find that, especially in evening classes, students need to be moving around to stay engaged. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

Demonstrations, then they can practice it themselves. PowerPoints, graphs, charts, especially ones you can post on the board and have the students come up and finish the graph or chart. That would get students involved too. I have always enjoyed instructors that got the students up and moving around some. Shorter videos may assist, but many times they may not keep the attention of most students.
I've found that the way I write things on the board is helpful. I use a lot of lists and charts to organize information. It's especially helpful with students who don't take down a lot of notes.
Hi Patricia, Thanks for your post to the forum. It's great how many videos are available for us to use in our instruction!

There are many instructional strategies to use for the visual learners. We have used the simulation lab with hands on for the last few years. It proves to be very effective for this group of learners.
I show videos that pertain to our lesson and I also show movies that pertain to my lesson as well as assigning homework on the computer.
I also use the white board. I not only like to underline/hilight important content. I draw a lot of pictures and diagrams that relate to the subjects in the p.p. as well.
I use powerpoints, hand-outs, and videos to help the visual learners. Also, in classes that permit so, I do demonstrations.
as a welding instructor I give a hands on visual demo and a hand out showing how the weld was completed
