Student feedback is help to meet the needs of each individual student and brings awarness to me to know if i missed a particular area that may have been neglected and needs further care.

It is important to truly know how much your students are comprehending. It also important to identify students that have fallen behind and to give them some extra attention following class to get them up to speed.

Cheryl,
It is so value for course improvement. I get student feedback throughout my courses so I can make any adjustments needed to keep the students engaged and the course moving forward.

Students Feedback is very important it gives the instructor an opportunity to know if she or he is reaching his or her students.

Jeanne,
I use them in my course and they are extremely valuable due the the tine they occur. I don't see a lot of value from end of course evaluations as the students are in a hurry to fill out the form, are mad because they are being rushed to complete a project or are worn out. Any of these three reasons can result in less than accurate input for course improvement. Mid-course evaluations reflect what is going on in the course at the moment and thus they are more helpful.

I really like the idea of getting feedback mid-course. I have had small and vocal classes that share what they like, yet a formal survey mid-way through would be helpful, especially to seek everyone's input.

Erin,
Student feedback is so important for the reason you state. We need to get it from out students and then reflect on how their comments can help us shape the course the next time we teach it.

Sometimes what we think is important information to give may not be what the student is interested in. With feedback, we can try to incorporate what is important with what is interesting.

Toni,
Good point about student feedback and the value it has in helping instructors to become even better at in their abilities to communicate their content effectively.

as an instructor, it will make be a better: teacher, trainer, mentor and evaluator. if i can incorporate my weakness into strenghs: i will sure be a better person, and instructor for doing so.

Mary,
This is such good information to receive from students because you can build on the feedback in relation to course improvement. This will help to keep your course on track while engaging your students.

Terie,
I think you will appreciate and value the feedback you get from this process. By having this feedback you can make adjustments at mid-course should they be necessary to keep your students on the learning pathway.

Getting feedback can inform you of areas in which your students are needing help with or excelling in. The focus can be brought back to the students in aiding them understand their problem areas.

My students are asked to evaluate me every semester by the school, and I get great comments then; however, I have not implemented a true written in-class feedback system for my own use up to this point. It's a great idea and I can't wait to try it, as we're coming up on our Midterms next week. I do ask for verbal feedback throughout the course, which is usually positive, but I like the anonymous route better. I assume I'll get more straightforward answers. As adult learners, I expect they will know what they're missing from my courses, or at least tell me what they find the most useful. Generally, I do see a definite slump in the middle of our accelerated semesters, so I will appreciate any suggestions for a midpoint pick-me-up!

Amanda,
This feedback can be so helpful because by getting it you can make any adjustments that might be needed to keep the course on track and prevent the loss of some students.

I love the idea of giving the students a chance to voice their critical evaluations of the class halfway through the course. I think this shows that you care and respect your students thoughts enough to ask them for their input and it also shows that you are willing to make changes to make the learning experience better.

Luanna,
I use this system as well and I get great feedback from my students. I do this throughout the course, it takes only a few minutes and I can redirect the course should I need to customize to the current group of students.

I like to give students a blank sheet of paper and ask for what they have enjoy most, least, what they would like to learn, etc... about the course half way through (then I can gauge what needs improvement) it is anonymous. Instructor evaluations aren't usually a surprise.

Debra,
Good point and well said. We need to know how our students are benefiting from our instructional efforts.

Well without student feedback you may as well be teaching to a wall. How can you know if your message is being received and understood without student feedback?
