Tifany,
This is such an important part of instructional improvement. We need to know how we can adapt or modify our instructional delivery to be even more effective.

Joseph,
Thank you for this list of ways to benefit from student feedback. They are right on target and I know will be of help to other instructors.

Charles,
This feedback helps of to grow and improve as educators and learning leaders.

Virginia,
I think you will really like the results you get from the feedback. This will be a valuable learning tool for everyone involved.

I provide my students a chance to provide feedback at the middle and end of the semester so that students will have a chance to voice their opinons and if there are some things that need to be changed they can be evaluated.

Getting direct feedback from students is imperative for the students to feel important and that their thoughts count.

By taking and listening to student feedback, I can:
1. Immediately judge the student's reaction teaching methods to my
2. Modify my presentation to be more informative and entertain
3. To tailor my mentoring to meet the individual needs of my student
4. To let my students know that their comments and opinions are important
5. One more way to keep the lines of communication open between the student and me

Allowing student feedback can refocus the instructor and motivate student success.

I have not reached mid point in my course yet, but this is a really great idea. I feel it will help me know if I need to make some changes and it will also help the students realize what they have already learned.

Kanidrus,
This is a way we can improve. The more feedback we have the more knowledge we have about how to adjust our instructional delivery and assignments if needed.

Student feedback allows the instructor to shift if needed. This allows the instuctor to meet the needs of the students.

Jason,
Another form of feedback you can get that I find very helpful is to give each student a 3X5 card and have them give me feedback about a quiz or assignment. I get really good feedback (in many years of teaching no venting as of yet) that I can use to improve the course. What I like about the feedback is that I can make adjustments while the course is still in process. End of course evaluations provide very little accurate feedback to instructors because the questions are generally "one size fits all" generic questions for the college and the students fill them out as they are completing the course and they really don't want to take the time to give in-depth feedback.

I had never even thought of doing a mid-term evaluation. I can certainly see the benfits to it. Especially since I verbally ask the students at the end of each class what "the good, the bad" and the ugly" of that evening's class were....but never get any verbal feedback. I suppose the good ol' pencil and paper free-write is the best option.

Imelda,
This is such important information to have as it guides you in your customizing of your instructional delivery for that class of learners.

I ask students what kind of learners they are--visual, hands-on, listeners, etc. Once I see the responses, I incorporate different learning strategies.

Rene,
This is a critical part of the instructional improvement process. I use 3X5 cards at different times in the course to get feedback on assignments and assessments. This type of feedback is much more helpful than the end of the course evaluations because it is real time and I can make adjustments right then and there if they are needed.

Getting feedback will allow the instructor to focus on areas of improvement in order to improve the learning experience.

Marvin,
Right you are. The more feedback we have the more information we have from which we can make changes that will increase our effectiveness as instructors.

Being the Instrucor of the course this will be a great way to take a look at my performance, and make alterations to best meet the needs of each student.

Gretchen,
First let me tell you, "yes there are such students out there". We can't let them get us down because no matter what we do they will not be happy. They don't want to be there or they are just negative people. You did the right thing and concentrated on the learning you saw with your engaged class and that helped to keep your spirits high. Enjoy your teaching and interaction with your positive students.
