Tiffany,
I agree. You have the best of both worlds. You get to work in an area you love helping the next generation to enter your career area and you get paid for doing it. This is a win win situation for sure.

Brian,
If you aren't excited about teaching it is for sure the students won't be excited about learning. You make a good point about why we need to be enthusiastic about sharing our content.

I believe that as an instructor you have to love what you do. The passion and drive for your profession is a must. I love teaching and I love doing hair so I combined my two passions and now love being a Cosmetology Instructor. I truly believe without the passion and knowledge for the subject that you teach that you cannot have influence on the students.
If you as an instructor are happy and excited to be there the students will follow this example and be more likely to stay in school or come to class
The instructor is the band leader, they set the tone for the class. IF the instructor is bored and dry then the class will become boring and dry.
Chloe,
Having passion for one's field and excitement about sharing the field with others creates a formula for success. We all like being around people that enjoy what they do and students are no exception. They catch enthusiasm from us.

Romana,
I agree. I like being around people that are excited about what they do. Enthusiasm is catching so bring it on and share it with students.

John,
Two valuable words for teachers, enthusiasm and energy. We need to bring both to our classes each time we teach. If we do then our students will become involved at a much higher level and retention will increase as well.

I love working in my industry, so I'm naturally enthusiastic about teaching it. I think it's very important to be enthusiastic because otherwise students could likely view the subject as unimportant or insignificant as part of their overall training. Thus, if that's the case, it's unlikely that students will want to return to class. It's important to have teachers who truly enjoy their work in the industry, and have the ability to present the subject with enthusiasm.
I believe that it is one of the most significant factors that contributes to student retention. I am very passionate about my field of expertise and I bring that into the classroom. I use specific exaples of cases that I have encountered. The students love my stories and hearing about the examples of practical application of what they are learning in class.
Enthusiasm is frequently associated with an excited state of interest. This energy is witnessed and changes the learners own level of attentiveness. The heart rate may increase, however, as educators, we want the students excitement level to rise which increases the level of focus the learner is experiencing. This focus is what we're after as educators.
James,
Yes, they will. We all like to feel that we are welcome and supported when we enter a situation and this holds true for students in classes. Knowing that a smile and a greeting welcomes them each time they come to class goes a long way on the human side of being a teacher.

If the instructor is excited to teach the the class and puts forth that attitude in each and every class the students will be more engaged and absorb more of the material.
Brian,
I am always amazed when I encounter an instructor that is boring and dull in the classroom and then complains the students aren't engaged. You are right on about needing to bring passion for the field and enthusiasm for sharing your content with your students. This is what teaching should be about.

How can a student be excited about a course, if the instructor who facilitates the learning process is not excited about the subject? This type of behavior will set a poor tone for course and will discourage the student and grind down any enthusiasm about the course by student which will definitely destroy any motivation. When a student sees that the instructor is excited, they will feed off that excitement and will be more likely to be motivated to learn more about the course.
Jessica,
It is a fact that if we do not bring passion and enthusiasm for our content to the classroom it is for sure the students won't have either. We need to be excited about sharing our content and the students need to be able to see this excitement each time we teach.

I feel that instructors need to show enthusiasm and positivity in the classroom. How we act as instructor reflects in our students. We are their role models for what we expect from them.
David,
Yes, it is. So we need to remember that each time we step into the classroom.

Joseph,
Yes, these items are important for student success. We have to show the students we value the content we are sharing and that we can help them move toward their career goals if they are willing to put forth the effort.

Student reactions are a mirror of my teaching attitude. When I have fun with subject, my student respond and enjoyed their learning. But when I am uninterested, I lose them. Even when I rebound with energy, the class doesn't always recover.
