I give my students an addendum or calendar in addition to a syllabus, outlining important rules, guidelines, tests, quizzes, and makeup policy for my classes

Hi Cindy,
Awesome leeway into the course! Your students have clear expectations as to what is required of them starting with Day 1.

Hi Roxanne,
The calendar really is helpful. You have less students not turing in their assignments due to utilizing their calendar.

As a new teacher I love the idea of the monthly calander to add assignments to. And the dates to be turned in

I take them over the syllabus, explaining to them this is mostly a hands on class. I explain the importance of being professional, from meeting and greeting their clients to giving the massage. I teach them how to interact with people. I also get them to understand the importance of being prompt. After I pair them up I have the therapist introduce themselves to the client, explaining the whole process. This practice helps them to be comfortable and confident.

Hi Yvonne,
Students need to feel comfortable with their classmates and, of course, the instructor. Students open up more when they are comfortable.

Hi Charles,
The course syllabus is the document to utilize to ensure your students know exactly what is required of them.

Hi Dannette,
Visual adds better clarity. Most students get it, if they can see it!

It is a very good idea in the classroom to make the students feel comfortable, by giving them and icebreaker for the first day of class. This will help the student to relax....

Visual such as Video, DVD, poster, community outreach,

On the first day of the class, I use the course syllabus and calendar to explain the course requirements to the students.
I invite the students to ask questions to ensure that that they understand the requirements.

The first day of every new term is an orientation for the class. I review the syllabus and have a calendar for every day with clear due dates for all assignments.

Hi Robert,
The syllabus is definitely the document to ensure clarity of the course. Students always have a hard copy to refer to with having a syllabus.

Patricia Scales

On the first day of the course i will lay out the syllabus for all students to see and have a copy of.

Hi Bruce,
Fantastic job with making sure course requirements are clear. Your students know exactly what is required of them, and they know the point system.

Patricia Scales

Hi Mindy,
Super! We need to make sure our students are clear about course requirements. Great reminder to do this at the end of each lecture period.

Patricia Scales

Hi Dominick,
You do a fine job with ensuring clarity of the course requirements. It is nice to have a weekly sheet, in addition to the syllabus to determine what is due.

Patricia Scales

I like to provide all the assignments with due dates for the entire term. We discuss the projects, homework and tests and I give examples of what the course expectations are. I assign points for all the requirements and provide them with the number of points needed to earn a specific grade.

I outline the requirements (including assignments, testing, reading, etc.) on the syllabus as while at the end of each lecture period

Along with the syllabus, I provide a handout discussing each week's activities and assignments, as well as an overview of the course project requirements.
