Hi Lacey,
Students like it when they have a document that they can refer back to if there is a need. The syllabus is a document that provides great clarity to students.

Making course requirements clear for students is key because if they do not know what is expected of them, the focus of the class in unclear. At the beginning of class, objectives and course requirements are introduced via handouts and reading out loud in class to make sure that everyone hears, as well as having a copy of the material for their records to refer back to.

I show examples of previous students who did well and others who did not meet expectations(names removed in both examples and I also ask students in higher terms to "guest speak". They validate the expectations in their own words

I give examples of the kinds of completed assignments and/or tasks that the students should be able to complete at designated points during the course. This gives the students concrete examples of what the course will require them to be able to do in order to meet the course requirements.

Hi Anna,
Consistency is key, and simplicity makes everyone's life easier.

Hi Debra,
Securing a signature is a great way to hold the students accountable.

Hi Elisa,
You do a great job of making sure students fully understand what is expected of them.
