Hi CoCintheane,
Great use of psychology! Almost everyone likes to be bragged on. Awesome way to bring out the best in your students.

Hi Gary,
You certainly understand the advantages of sharing examples with students. Students get it when they can see it.
Patricia Scales
Interestingly enough, my doctoral professors have not given us an example of former students' work. Since beginning my doctoral program in 2010, I have only had '1' professor who gave us an example of former students' work. ALL of my other professors have said that we need to do our own work and s /he wants to see just how creative we are and how great our understanding is since we are training to become global change leaders. The other part of this is that they want to see how we will do our research = again, waiting to see just how creative we will be!!! yepp
I love it when my students let me have their work or a copy of it. This is why I have my students do vision dream boards and lifeline projects that are electronic. Each class meeting, I show examples of my former students. This allows me to brag about my former students which lets the current ones know that I will soon be bragging about them!!!! I feel that each group tried to outdo the previous ones!!
Showing examples of student work helps students to understand what is expected of them. It is a way of "setting the bar." It also gives students a visual example that can help relieve anxiety about the unknown. Examples can also serve as a model that the students can use to replicate. It helps show the students what professional work looks like.
Hi Erin,
Students are more motivated and engaged when examples are shared.
Patricia Scales
Showing examples allows the students to gain more information about what they will be doing in the class and make them feel more comfortable with the course. It may also engage the students and allow them to think about how the work will help them in the real world.
That is completely true. The student can prepare better and have an idea how to tackle the course with confidence.
Showing them samples of earlier work not only helps them know what to expect, but it also motivates them to exceed beyond what other students have accomplished.
Students need modeling and good work samples for clarification about what is exceptional work.
Students need modeling and acceptable examples for clarification about what is exceptional work in a course.
Hi Monica,
Examples show students that an assignment is attainable. They gain hope from seeing an example. Examples serve as motivators.

It helps them to prepare better to suceed in the classroom
Hi Shinika,
Students tend to do better when they can see a visual as to what is expected of them. Things are clearer to students when they can see.
Patricia Scales
It gives them an idea of real work
One of the assignments the students do is a group poster/ target marketing exercise (3 students or so per group) for phlebotomy that is designed to teach other students in the school about phlebotomy. We hang them in hall for others to read and students vote for the one that was most creative and informative. Sometimes they will focus on certain blood tubes and why they are used. I have found that by showing them examples of some good ones they have a better idea of how to proceed.
I believe that showing students examples of the work they will be doing allows them to understand the level of effort required for the course. Additionally, the example will help them to define what is and is not acceptable quality of work.
Hi Michael,
Students need explicit details as to what is expected of them. Visual adds great clarity to make it plain to students what is expected of them.
Patricia Scales
It is important for students to know what will be expected of them. By seeing an example of the work they will want to know how they can achieve a similar result.
Hi Jessica,
Students love it when examples are shared. Shared examples serve as a super motivator for students.
