Hi Patricia,
As we know, students have different strengths in their learning styles. Showing examples adds a visual explanation to the auditory and written ones.

I would say to help prepare them for the the up coming lesson and to give you insight as to how they will react.

Hi Patricia,
Students really are motivated by seeing an example. It gives them great confidence that they can do the assignment and in some cases do even better.

I have done this many times using mainly schematic drawings of other students, this made the task much more clear for the begging class to mold their path with that assignment.

I've noticed that by showing examples of previous assignments or projects of other students, seems to be a motivation to do a better job.

Hi Janice,
You are right! Students know exactly what is expected of them when they can see it. They have a better understanding of the requirements when a visual is shared.

Sometimes giving a student a visual aide helps them understand what is expected and give them a idea of what is expected

Hi Eric,
Students can rest easy knowing exactly what is required of them. A visual adds great clarity.

Showing examples can mentally prepare students of what will be upcoming in the course. That why they will not be too overwhelmed.

Hi Meg,
Students know exactly what is expected of them when they can see an example.

Students often want to know what they will have to do to be successful in a course. Showing examples of the work that they will be doing gives them a good idea of the types of work they will be doing and what they will need to do to be successful. This may help alleviate their concerns about the difficulty of the course and if they will be able to the work required, as well as establishing instructor expectations for adequate work.

Hi Lee,
Yes! Visual adds better clarity!

Students can see what they are dealing with when they work is visual

Hi David,
Yes, verbal understanding is just as important as the visual aspect of understanding. Better communication is established by doing both verbal and visual.

Hi Sherlian,
Absolutely! Everything should be clear to students by sharing an example.

Because my class is a technical, construction related CAD drawing class, seeing examples of good student work helps them see for themselves how the numerous points of emphasis in the lectures are assimilated into the drawings. These reflect that both visual AND verbal information are needed in good documentation (communication).

I saw examples of how work is suppose to be done so there is no if ands and buts about what I expect from them.

Hi Brandi,
Examples provide better clarity. I love the idea of showing what to do and what not to do. Students have a better understanding with a visual.

Showing examples of work that is expected has several benefits. Personally I like to show a sample project so that they know what is expected and have a clear understanding. This also provides them with a template or clear instruction of what the finished product should look like.

Showing past students work is tricky in a small vocational school because most often the hand writing is recognizable. I do however black out all other identifying information and will show students an example of what NOT to do and what TO do.

Hi Thomas,
Yes! Students like having prior knowledge and knowing what they are getting into.
