for understanding of the course content and how it relates to their career path. Students want to know how the course work will apply to their individual needs or goals.

Most adult learners want to get their hands on the project. It is easier to mantain the information if you have had access to it.

Showing examples allows the students to see and understand the quality of work expected. This also encourages them to work towards that end.

This helps them to be motivated and excited about the career they are going into.

I think it is very helpful to show students examples of the work they will be doing in the upcoming class for two reasons;
1. It allows the instructor to pass around or circulate examples; say of a claim that has been prepared to be submitted to an insurance carrier for payment. This is a (visual / tactile stimulation for students.
2. Students develope confidence in the courses, intructors, and institutions to be able to prepare them for real world work experiences.

It will provide the students with a clear understanding of the work to be expected and a visual.

To get them excited about what they will be learning and doing. Sometimes students see examples of what they will be doing and think "I can't do that". When they have completed something that they never thought they could accomplish, WOW!

So they have a guideline to follow as well as a correct, completed template of expectations.

It gives them ideas of what it is expected of them and an opportunity to exceed expectations.

Most Students are nervous and this method helps to reinsure them

get them motivated

It is important to give examples as it gives students an idea of what the instructor is looking for in the assignments. I find that this is especially helpful to visual learners.

Students need to know what is expected of them. If they don't know what is expected they have a much more difficult time with the assignment. It also helps to generate ideas when they can see examples. I think it helps to get the wheels turning.

Hi Chris,
I agree! I like to show an example from each grade level, such as A, B, C, D, and F. Students quickly decide which grade level they would like to get.

Hi Chris,
You are right! Visual is such a better way to bring about understanding.

It's so true......a very visual person would need to see examples of what is expected ofthem....and it helps everyone else as well. This leaves no doubt about a teacher's xpectations!

It gives them a better understanding of the requirements when they can visualize an assignment or project.

Showing what you consider to be good/excellent examples gives students a visual and adds clarity to the expected end result.
Sometimes it's helpful to show the "not so acceptable" as well...the better understanding the students have of what caliber of work is required, I believe the better the assignments will be.

They need to see what a perfect product should be. I also show poor products, explained what is wrong & how to avoid the error & if possible how to correct it

Hi Mark,
You certainly have the upper hand. You have great visuals to share with your students throughout the course.
