Hi Heidi,
Your students are very fortunate. You bring real life into each lesson for them. I am sure your classes are very interesting with the great stories you share.
Patricia

Hi Lisa,
Students like knowing exactly what is expected of them. Clarity makes things run smoother.
Patricia

Hi Chris,
It is great! You can hear students saying, well I see what it takes to get an A verses a B or C, etc. Students really get the idea by seeing a visual.
Patricia

Amen to that. I think showing a few examples of each "grade" on a rubric is great

So may people are extremely visual learners, and only directions/explanations just aren't as clear............back to the old saying "A picture is worth a thousand words" !!

Hi Dixie,
I agree that showing only one good example invites students to copy the sample. Showing different "A" examples, I think, gives students the idea that it's the quality of what they do that will get them the highest grade.

By showing/demonstrating what is considered acceptable, it gives students a definite idea of what is expected of them.

So they know how it will apply to their choice in careers. As well as they will know what they will be doing as students throughout the course.

I teach nursing students, and I think it really helps that I am still a working nurse in the "field". I share real life stories everyday and I think it helps the students to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Hi Natasha,
Students really get when they can see an actual example as to what is expected of them.
Patricia

This is especially true in fields like graphic design and drafting which are quite visual in projects.

It is import to show students examples because they can see what is expected from them. The visual wil be helpful for them planning their work and steps that is needed.

Hi Jason,
Showing examples really add clarity!
Patricia

Hi April,
You're right! Sharing examples are very engaging as well as confidence building. Students get real motivated from having a shared example.
Patricia

Hi Michael,
It is so motivating and positive to share finished examples with students. Students now have a SOLID idea as to what is expected.
Patricia

I would say that showing them examples will give them a better understanding of what an instructor is looking for in terms of completed works.

Helps them "buy in" to why this step is important. So they will be ready for that upcoming step.

It is important to show examples of completed work to students because it shows a standard of how to complete the project and that the project is able to be done in a manner that deserves praise. Showing examples also stimulates the mind to think about how he/she will attempt the work.

To present students with a a different way of resolving a problem truly gives the student something to think about. I believe this will allow the instructor to engage the student throughout the class.

Hi April,
It is always a good practice to appeal to all three type of learners, visual, auditory, and kinesthetic.
