on the very first day of class I make it very clear what is expected of each students, when they will be quized and have their exam, also what is required of them in open labs.

I like to go over the syllabus in its entirety on the first day of class to make sure that everyone is fully aware of the class outline and requirements.

Hi George,
I like it! Our students need to understand the importance of retaining information.

I hand out a course outline and explain to them that the deadlines for work turned in will never change. I also explain that we may get ahead or behind in class or lab from time to time but the tests are far enough ahead and deadlines that there will be no need to change them. I explain that this is because i want to see what they can remember a week, or year from now not just what they can remember the next day.

I like to write upcoming assignment on the board

I like to show emphasis on the board and I like to talk by confirmation by saying do we all understand

On the 1st day of class I introduce myself to the students and I let them know a little about myself. I then ask the students to introduce themselves and to tell me why they choose to do this course. I then proceed to go over the course contents as well as the rules that have been implemented in the class room.

Say it, write it in a handout, say it again.

I create a syllabus that is clear and easy to understand with specific weights given to each activity, and with a weekly outline of what I intend to cover for each class session. That way they have a roadmap of how the course will unfold and knowledge about what is expected of them.

Before each Module begins I make sure that I have printed enough Syllabus and Topical Outlines for each student. I hand them out first thing first day and we discuss all of the pre-reqs, objectives, which material will be used, methods of instruction, weights of final grade, attendance policies, and we discuss the calendar for the module. Every day I remind the students what is expected of them the next day and over all. I also write a calendar for due dates and activities for the classroom. There is an overall daily calendar for the complete module at the beginning of each module and an hour by hour for each day at the start of the day.

The first day of class, when telling them about weekly assignments, I also pass around examples of chapter summaries or essays so they know what I expect from them.

To make the course requirements clear for students, I use bold, and itiliacized fonts to depict important information in the syllabus. I also go over the course requirements on the first day of class and instruct them to highlight key areas of importance.

I prepare a separate class plan that lists what we are to accomplish weekly and daily that details what/when assignments are due.

My syllabus is very detailed about the course requirements, and expectations. Additionally, I include how late assignments are handled. I state very clearly about the need for proper, credible documentation if an assignment is missed. I verbally reiterate these requirements numerous times throughout the term, and tell students to come to office hours if anything is unclear.

I like to include detailed course requirements, with the weighted grade breakdown as part of the syllabus (including due dates and missing work policies). I then also discuss all of these items the first day of class, so there should be no misunderstandings. I like the idea of including a signature page at the end of the packet, which is then collected to record that everyone has read and understood the course components.

On the first day do class, I distribute the syllabus and give a thorough explanation of what is expected in the course; and by doing so this allows the students to ask any questions they may have about the material that will be covered in the throughout the course.

ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS THE STUDENTS ARE GIVEN A CALENDAR SO THEY CAN WRITE IN THE DATES ALL WRITEN ASSIGNMENTS AND PRESENTATIONS ARE DUE

tHE FIRST DAY OF THE COURSE THE STUDENTS ARE GIVEN THE OBJECTIVES TO REVIEW, DURING THE COURSE EACH STUDENT IS GIVEN ONE OF THE CLINICAL OBJECTIVES TO PRESENT IN CLASS

I make sure to go through the course outline and explain everything in plan english. I also let them know what my expectations are for the class as an instructor. I find setting clear requirements and ground rules on the first day helps things to run better. students can't use the excuse that they were never told.

On the first day of class we review the syllabus for things such as attendance rules, grading, etc. We then look over the more detailed lesson plan and discuss the day to day lectures, labs, and class assignments.
