As a instructor you cannot cross the line. THe line can save you or pull you done. Student , instructor respect goes a long was. When you get to know things about your students . You can teach to it
Making that initial contact and making my presence know even from within the virtual education setting is a key component to student success. A short bio with success and demonstrating my expertise helps the students be comfortable within the learning setting.
Building relationships with students is the key to a sucessful school year. This module has been helpful in reminding me that it rleationships online can be built as well.
I always want to get to know my learners but I need to share my credentials, training, and expertise with the learners.
I learned that myths about projecting presence and establishing rapport with students continue to propgated. As an e-learner, I don't want to post a biography, I don't want to read biograpphies. I am not impressed with degrees etc, I know many and educated person with an alphabet behind their name that still doesn't seem to know anything. I have taken classes where the instructor knew less than students who have previously or currently self studying a topic. It doesn't take long to figure out if an instructor is qualified to teach the course regardless of what they post in their biographyPresence is projected through engagement and participation yes, authority and respect come from interactions, earning it, not by bigraphies and ice breakers.
Being more personable, as if we were in a classroom. Creating interaction between yourself, students, and themselves. Helps create more than just one way to grab a students attention- in a good way
If students can relate to you, they will trust you more and open up to you.
Building relationships is vital in any learning community, online classrooms are no different. The means to which relationships are build may be somewhat different. I love the idea of short biographies of both the student and instructor. It is also a good way to get students to interact with each other in order to get to know one another.
While you may not be able to physically intereact with students you can interact with their posts. Be sure to show your online presence early on and respond in a timely manner.
Letting your students know that you are there is very important. You can build a relationship with them online, just as you could in a classroom. It essential that they feel confident, and by participating in discussion, you can make them feel that way.
Building a relationship with students is still possible outside of the traditional classroom. Students value the instructor's teaching credentials and achievements. I learned how to manage synchronous and asynchronous discussions.

I like how this section discussed how you are not able to see the concerns and body language inside of a classroom. The biggest thing in online learning is to how to get to know the people. I like the idea of posting a biogrpahy of myself for the students to know. Not only the academic but to also show a little personal part of your life so the students can see that you are a human as well.
Business as usual but from an unusual place. Still be the same instructor but from a different location. Still interact with my students, just as I did when I was in the classroom.
I earned my Ed.S. degree online and thought it was a high quality program. I see many features listed here that my professors used throughout my coursework. I really like the idea of posting a biography of myself to begin with, along with having the kids do the same thing. Since I'm a middle school teacher, my topics for the kids to include will be different from the ones mentioned in the tutorial of this lesson. But, overall, I think that will set the tone for having me connect with the kids right from the start.
I learned that it is extremely important to establish your personal presence during an e-learning process, and this course proveded multinple ways we can do it. Also, it is crucial to know the biography of the students and understand their background.
getting to know your students and letting them get to know about you
At the beginning of the course I will send a welcoming note with a short biography of myself including my credentials and experience. I will request that each student send a short biography of themselves also.
