Establish a good relationship with your students at the beginning. They are more likely to respond to you as an instructor.

Total transparency and honesty is most important in projecting your presence and gaining respect.  The professor should model a bio for the students with his basic background, education and experience.  Finally, a bit of personal information can finish off the presentation.  Then, to build relationship, it is important to have them respond with a brief bio to begin the class.  Then both  sides have information to build on.

Projecting your presence is important to online students, as it gives them a better sense of the instructor's qualifications and to see them as a person. The instructor-student connection is important to their investment in the class and to participation.

For me, this lesson affirmed all of what I am doing in terms of relationship building.  The relational component is often times lost in online - I think the biggest compliment I have ever recevived from students is being todl they felt as though they were sitting in a ground classroom when they were in my classes because of my ability to connect - and all of the information shared affirms that is a vital part in a student's success.

It is especially important to make a quick and meaningful connection with each student during the first day or couple days of class.  This connection will encourage students to ask questions and feel comfortable contacting you.

I have learned whether in the classroom or online it is important to emote a presence of authority and a welcoming spirit of learning so that the students know to come to you for direction and understand that they will be part of the learning process through their participation in the class.

I learned how important it is to build a online realationship with your students. I think the Bio idea is a excellant way to introduce yourself to students and for them to introcude themselves to each other as well. I also like the tips given for posting sicussion answers and respecting the posters privacy.

I learned how important it is to build a realationship with my students online and get to know them better. I think it is a great idea to have them write theier own Bio and have them each each others. I also learned the importance of asking students about sharing thier answers on the forum and respecting thier privacy (name) as well.

I learned to best help your students, it is important to get to know them. It is important to be honest with them, and that students are more likely to respect you because of your achievements and credentials.

From reviewing this topic I have discovered the importance of updating your profile on your online delivery course. This way the students can understand your background and experience you bring to the table when teaching their online courses.

Relationships are important, whether in person or online.  It is important for me to establish good relationships with my students.

I learned that although the learning evironment will be remote, it is of great importance to establish classroom rapport. To do so remotely, you must first allow your students to know who you are professionally and as a human being. Sharing your professional experience allows them to still see you as the "authority," or most knowledgeable in the room. However to  in order maintain this authority that you must get to know your students in the same manner so that you can create your planning to suit your class environment and meet the needs of the students.

Introduction and making your presence known is important. Listing a biography helps a student to get to know you and encourage the student to do the same so you can. Get to know them.

List your virtual off hours as well

This module made it very clear that online learning and instructing is not much different than classroom instruction. Creating a biography to share some personal and professional credential and educational information about yourself is very similar to what I do on the first day of class in my classrooms. I‘ve found that my students really respect  instructors who have a good background in the field that they are teaching. It is important for a student to see that what they are learning will lead them in a positive direction.  It helps them to see the value in what they are learning. Building a good relationship with your students early on is very important to keep them engaged in their own learning process  and knowing some thing about your students‘ backgrounds will make you a more understanding instructor to each student’s needs in their own situations.

In addition to me needing to know about the students, they also need to know about me. Sending a short bio of me and my qualifications is a good idea.

In module two, I learned about having students do a biography.  In New Student Orientation, I always give the students some personal information about me.  I always ask them to introduce themselves.  By having a student type a biography and send via email to me the student is able to express more about there personal lives.  The biography would give me some ideas about the diffeent intrests each student has plus it will give me a general idea of what kind of activities or topics I should use in my lesson plans.  If the lesson plan is towards a students intrests he/she would be more engaged in their work.

I learne that while hav credentials and achievements is important, having a professi respectful relationshi with students is more important.

How important the biography is for both parties in order to form trust and relationships.

Influence, Persuade, Inspire and Engage that is what an instructor is called to do.  To project presence in an online course, creating and modeling answers wiil give the student an example of what to reach for.  Providing a short biography of myself including my Academic Achievement and Professional Experience will give the student cofidence in my ability to teach.  Something I have done as an on-ground facilitator was to have the students fill out a questionaire telling me something about themselves.  Afterwards, I would use some of the information in an assigment or email to let them know the assignment was read carefully and I was glad to learn something of them.
