I am now creating a notebook as well as having one on my desktop so that I can go to the website to get updates.
Staying on top of the changes is so important to not fall in a rut of old information.
Good memory excercise as well.

I learn a lot through my DOA. She keeps me up to date and she also has regular training classes.

JORGE,
The regulations are our guiding force to practice educational activities within the law and protect the consumer.

Belkis,

The fair consumer practices protect the student but also protect the school by providing guidelines for compliance.

trang anh,
Excellent advice! I also suggest reading the rules and reviewing your schoool's documents alongside. It will give you a first look at why they are written as such.

Patty Aronoff

Colleen,

We do have our own way of learning and organizing. Thus, the importance of finding the right way for us. As long as the outcomes are the same, it doesn't matter how it is organized.

The requirements help us to provide guidance to prospective student about the programs, costs, rates of employability, retention, degree, financial and phisical facilities.
Follow instructuion and requires ensure to do our job , to receive our students respect, the school's educational philosophy, goals , and objectives.

CIE requirements serve as a wonderful outline for Admission representatives. They are instituted to protect the consumer as well as the institution.
Thru the web page, any publications to keep up date

The most effective way to learn is check the Florida Commission for Independent Education website at least once a month for announcements of any updates to Rules and Statutes.

Make sure to download the following files and read them:
Section 1005.31, F.S., Licensure of Institutions
Section 1005.04, F.S., Fair Consumer Practices
Section 1005.34, F.S., Fair Consumer Practices; Condition of Operation
Rule 6E-1.0032, F.A.C., Fair Consumer Practices

If you are unsure or need help when reading those documents, make sure you call the CIE help line or consult with your senior colleages. It is very important you understand the rules and follow the procedures correctly. If you misinform, you mislead the prospective students and also damage your institution as well.

So read and read and ask question

Of course the CIE website is the possibly the best resource to utilize in regards to this discussion, however; I do believe eveyone has their own learning / organizational systems. I keep a binder of this info readily available should I have to ever use it

Teah,
We do need to check for updates. Since rule can change anytime during the year, it is important to stay informed.

Patty Aronoff

Thelma,
Continue to add additional resources to your notebook. Some suggestions are product information sheets, ad slicks, organizational chart, sample forms.

Patty Aronoff

I printed them out and made an entire notebook on them. Since they change often, I look at the website at least once every couple weeks to see if anything changed and keep my notebook updated.

I have a muanual of the statues, rules and regulations. I review them often to keep fresh in my mind. It is also our responsibility to update this manual as things chage. Also to share changes with staff that play a role in the admissions process.

Ian ,

Another suggestion is to take the document referred to in the rule or statute and go through it line by line. You will have a better understanding of the rules and how they apply.

Patty Aronoff

Sally,
Yes, the CIE website is the beginning of where to look. You can also check out the Florida Administrative Weekly website for pending rule changes which have to be noticed under the Sunshine Law.

Patty Aronoff

Vorick,

The Commission will place notification on their website of pending rule changes. Check out their monthly newsletter for information.

Patty Aronoff

Vorick,
Great communication is key. Many times we think we know something and we really don't. We should always be checking to make sure we are correct in what we speak.

Patty Aronoff

Ericka,
Very good advice!. Start with the definitions in the statutes, then turn to the definitions in the rules. They are not repeated in both documents. With this beginning, you will know the terms as they are outlined in each.

Patty Aronoff

Catalina,
Excellent! The CIE website also has links to other web resources that may affect your school. Check them out!
