The best way for me to learn the various Florida Statutes, Rules and Regulations is to read them online and then print them out and read them again. By reading through them twice (once in electronic form and then hard copy) it helps me retain the information.

Exactly. The additional updates from your main campus via e-mail notification ensures an updated reference notebook. Once a month visit the website. Do any fellow Floridians get updates from their main campus?

Other than updates the Campus sends. The Florida commission Website. Generally once a month unless the campus updates me first. I have a binder designated specifically for any changes in the regs.

That is true. This is why it is important to keep abreast of the commissions' website also, to make sure I can know whether the rules have changed in a timely manner.

To me, the best way to learn and keep familiar with these stautes, rules, and regulations is to keep a copy of them in my resource binder; I also keep an electronic copy on my desktop. Working the admissions process is an ongoing experience that requires vigilance, staying informed and abreast of all happenings in our industry, and especially, making sure to practice what we know is the right thing to do. Another thing that I do is to have short discussions with other adminissions personnel to not only assess their competence, but to keep a check on myself as well. If I see anything contrary to what the rules dictate, it should be addressed with our superiors because anything that can hurt the institution is going to hurt our jobs.

I too printed out all of the regulations. I feel that the only way to be concise to follow all the rules and regulations is to go over every one of them until you know what they are, because the last thing anyone wants to do is to jeopardize themselves as well as the institution.

I have the CIE website that i often check and also have a binder with the rules and regulations that every update that i get from the CIE site and my institution i print it and keep my binder up to date.

Wendy,
I do the writing in the margins and cross-referencing as well. Excellent tip!

The first thing I did was print out the Florida Commission for Independent Education statutes and highlight each area before organizing them in a binder for future reference. I have also bookmarked the website so I can check for updates or changes on a regular basis. Doing this will help me keep my binder current. In addition to that I am going over each section and making notes in the margins for easier reference, and to give myself visual cues if a section directly relates to another section. This cross-referencing will make it easier to quickly locate the information I need.

Frank,

I agree! Just looking up a particular question will cause further inquiry. Refresh often!

Nicolas,
The rules can change anytime during the year. Thus, the importance of regular review of the rules and regulations.

Continual review is the only way to ensure familiarity. I personally have printed out the commission rules and highlighted the sections I refer to most often. This printout will now be maintained in my notebook for future reference.

I added the Commission's website to my favorite pages: http://www.fldoe.org/cie/pdf/chapter6E_rules.pdf. and also have a printed copy of the rules on hand to use as reference and will update accordingly.

I have read the Statutes, rules, and regulations and reviewed them several times. they are now in my resource notebook and tabbed and highlighted so that I have easy access to this important information.

Our Institution has a required testing site that we access to learn of the Florida Regualtions and how they apply to our school. The course can take up to 4 weeks to complete and is considered as a prerequisite to maintaining your employment.

Best Regards
Kevin

We participate in weekly and monthly meetings where we go over any changes or additions to any of the Florida Statutes and Rules & Regulations.
