Hi Kathi:

By consistently allowing students to have an idea of how they are doing in class, they have the chance to make changes in study habits as soon as possible. By doing this, they promote a more successful outcome for themselves by the end of the course.

It makes sense from many points of view. From the student's perspective, they need to know how they are doing. It validates their efforts and the instructor's success. From a business point of view, they are a customer. Even if they are failing, as acustomer they deserve to know.

Informing students of their status in the course at all times will hopefully keep them motivated to improve on a personal level. Students learn in different ways and the grading structure should lend itself to letting each learning style have a time to shine.

That's very good. Time passes by so fast that if our students are not constantly updated they can easily slip through the cracks and not know it. Especially in career colleges because the courses moves so fast.

They will ask you anyway if they care about their schooling. If they are doing well, letting them know that reinforces the good behaviors and learning activities of the student.

If you do not keep the student informed of their status then problems may arise when you finally do. Students need to know how they are progressing so there are no surprises at the end of the semester.

Students know how they are doing if the instructors are handing back the material right away. At our Facility, we have a program where Students tutor students, and when we see a student having problems in certain areas, we set them up with a student tutor.
