This information should not be a secret. It allows the student to continue to be motivated by their good performance or allows them to see the areas where they need to improve.
Especially in this modern era of instant information availability, our students need almost constant updates of their progress to remain engaged and stimulated.
So they know where they stand in the course at any given time and to show them what areas they may need to focus on.
Hi David:
Exactly - showing them scores routinely gives them a chance ot make changes in study habits as early as possible for more successful outcomes.

Hi Dennis:
Exactly - this gives the student a chance to make changes in study habits as necessary for more successful outcomes.

Hi Lorraine:
Right - and this continuous feedback allows a student the chance to make any necessary changes in study habits as soon as possible.

This keeps them responsible and abreast of what is happening with their grade. It may make them work harder so that they can bring up their grade or discuss with you why their grade is what it is.
Students should be informed about their status in the course at all times. This allows them to know how they are doing grade wise. If they are doing poorly they will have time to adjust. They can obtain a tutor, spend more time studying or more time discussing course subject matter with the instructor. If they are aware of their status they will not be surprised if they get a grade lower than they would like.
Students need to know where they stand. If their status is good, they may feel empowered. If not, you can help diagnose problems provide encouragement, and empower the student.
I feel it is really important to keep the students informed in how they are doing in my classes. The students are able to see where they are doing well and where they need to improve. They will also see if they need to work on test taking skills or preparation for test.I feel it is very important to praise students for jobs well done. They will not know they are doing well unless we tell them.
Instructors who give immediate student feedback gain respect from students, along with providing students with information necessary for improvement. By staying up-to-date both the instructor and students benefit by staying organized and aware. (How do we best move forward in the course to fulfill course objectives and meet requirements?)
Students should be kept informed about their class progress from time to time.It is very important to relay their status because this will allow them to study harder to attain a reasonable passing grade or reflect upon their status keeping tract of their pass or fail situation.
Students love to know where they are so they can either be prepared for their next test (to see how much they need to study) or to just know because they are in trouble or just very good students and like to keep track of their grades. I love giving feedback by doing progress reports every so often just so they see where they're at and there's no surprises come the end of the course.
First off, I think students just want to know how they are doing and not knowing can cause anxiety.
It also helps students gauage how they are doing in a class and gives the students time to implement a corrective strategy to help improve their grade.
the adult learner needs immediate feedback in order to continue to strive for excellence
Hi Halina:
Right! And, they are given the chance to make changes in study habits as soon as possible.

Hi Nancy:
To paraphrase what you've described, students will be given the chance ot make changes in study habits as early as possible, facilitating more successful outcomes.

Hi Pamela:
Right - keeping the students informed throughout the course allows them the chance to make changes in study habits as early as possible for more successful outcomes.

Students like to know their grades at all times. It is important as a learning tool for them and an evaluation tool for us. I think it is important to package their knowledge, not just with evaluating by exams but in professionalism as well.
Most students want to know how they're doing in the class. Some track their grades more closely than others, but most at least want to know how they did on the recent test. I place a list of the tests students will take during the course on the back of the syllabus, with a column that shows the point value of each test, total test points for the course, and how many points each student must earn to pass. Another column right next to that one gives them a place to write their actual score for that test. Frequent progress reports give them the opportunity to compare their records to mine, which prevents log jams and mixups at the end of the course.
