Hi Mona:
Really, you are quite right about wating the students time and money! Students expect and deserve all we have to offer, and that "all" takes time, effort, interest, and enthusiam to produce. Students will pick up quickly when their teacher is less than fully prepared. not good!

Regards, Barry

When an instructor have good organizational structure in the classroom, the class is more successful as well as the course delivery. The learning enviroment is comfortable and it provides the students with classroom stability.

It shows the students that you are working hard to give them a positive learning enviroment and that their success is important to you. It also demonstrates that you respect your students and care enough to be organized and prepared for class.

If the instrucvtor is organized and well prepared--he is then able to devote all the alloted class time to instruction in order to have a positive effect on student achievement

When an instructor is not organized and prepared to teach, students will see every mistake made. Also, you will not be able to offer the students full details or examples of material that need to be addressed.

Hi Candy:
I think you've said everything I could say. Students like teachers who are prepared and organized. It'll help build respect and trust. The opposite is probably also true, but I don't like to ficuus on the negative.

Organization completely sets the tone for the class room; with out speaking it shows structure. Sets "invisible" walls clearing stating preparation for class as well as for the work world.

Hi Joycelyn:
Good examples. I think preparation is is a basic trait that all instructors are accountable for. Being orgainzed demonstrates to the students the teacher is ready and is taking the course and the student learning serious. I also think students appreciate teachers that are very organized - less clutter they have to worry about.

Hi

Being prepared allows the instructor to be prepared to interact with students in a methodical manner. The instructor should not be scrambling to determine what is due when or what material was covered in the readings. It allows a better interaction with the students as the instructor can then work in outside references and real-life experiences that are relevant to the studies.

Hi Terri:

Teachers can be the best role models to students and future workers about they way and methods to be orgaized in their approach to work. We have an opportunity every day we have them as students to show how it's done. We don't even have to call attenetion to it - I think students pick up on organized and dsiorganized students pretty quick.

Hi Susan:
I think respect can be one of of the extra bonuses of being organized. Mostly, though, it should be a planning activity that takes effort and thought - and should be regular practice. I think students will see the teacher in a better light (i.e. respectful) when they observe regular organization by their instructor.

You do not look professional to the student when you are not prepared and you are wasting their time and money. You are also setting a poor example of what to expect from other professionals in the field of their chosen career.
You will also lose their respect if you are not prepared and then their attention.

Ms Jones,

This applies to students and associates.

Your comments confirm that as instructors with "real world" experience, we must be organized and prepared for anything that Murphy throws at us. Just as we would find ourselves in our previous profession.

How we handle the challenge helps the student to understand the importance of their developing a solid foundation of talent, skills, time management and the ability to think on their feet.

That is our goal as educators is it not?

In my opinion, an instructor who is well-organized and prepared is more respected by the students. If someone is disorganized, the students will wonder why they should pay attention to said person.

Hi Amy:
Sure! So as role models, we can demonstrate daily preparation and organization to convey what successful professionals do. Organization also helps the teacher plan for individual or special needs their students may need. Oraganization really takes time and effort to be effective.

Hi Ken:
I agree that prepared and organized teachers will be evident to all - especially the students. Recognition of the competence and readiness to teach them aslo helps build trust and respect with your students.

Hi Mark:
I would agree that "good" organization can assist in role modeling. Many teachers make assumptions about what they believe their student knoew (or should know). I think that's a mistake. Even my most senbior students are given all my expectations from the first to last day of class. It's not fool proof, but I've seen better results when a little bit of time is spent reviewing and clarifying what I expect.

I think that when the instructor is organized it sets the tone for the class to follow. Students are more likely to absorb the information from a systamatic approach. Learning is a process. In most cases, we are also teaching students ways to prepare themselves for thier careers. Every career will require organization on the part of the employee.

It shows your students that you are a professional. You have taken the time to prepare
and this shows an interest on thier behalf.

organization models the behavior we want the students to posses when they graduate.
