To me, the goal of educating stuents is to prepare them for work directly after graduation. I want them to be knowledgable, but I also want themt to have great social skills as well. I am not only teaching them the material required for them, but I am also guiding them towards professional behavior. I love the field that I am in and it shows in my teaching. I want them to show the same passion. I also want them to be able to not only get a job, but make it a career and stay for a while. I am showing them the ways of doing. Also, because we are working in medicine (which is not a science) I am helping them to think outside the box and appreciate that there is more than one way to do things. They are going to be better prepared for the field that they are going into.

Hi Jessica:
This is certainly true for classes that are designed to help a student find a specific career. A braoder statement may also be "to impart knowledge".

I believe the goal of educating students is to create ownership of the information your are sharing. If they can make it theirs they can apply it to any situation. More than anything, I see myself as facilitating an environment that allows them to achieve their goals.

Hi Jason:
That's great! A more broad or general statement might be "to impart knowledge to the students".

However, you've made a great link to tying in the goal to career outcomes as well.

I believe the goal of educating students in a career college is to train & prepare them to become exceptionally skilled professionals that will replace the current professionals who will be retiring soon. Also, for them to continue and improve on what the previous generation of professionals has established.

Hi Bonnie:
Preparation for the work field is probably the most important goal for students in those kinds of settings.

If we were to put a broader description on this idea, it might be something like "to impart knowledge to the student".

Hi Gregory:
This is a great deescription of the goal of educating students. A broader generalization might also be "to impart knowledge to the student".

I like your use of the word "synthesize".

My goal is to prepare students for their choice of the workforce.

I truly believe that the goal of educating students is, in the words of Carl Rogers,"the fully self-actualized individual." The learner is capable of reaching his/her full potential as a human being. Our challenge as teachers is to seek methods of nuturing this process in the individual to the extent that the learner evolves to the point that they take charge of their own education, driven by curiousity and pursuit of knowing more.

Hi Sue:
If we could put a broader definition on this, we might say, "to impart knowledge".

However, I like what you mean here - in learning situations that impact careers, that is very important.

Hi Simon:
The primary idea about this module is the impartation of information to students.

We can then ask ourselves, "What's the most effective way of doing this"?

Barry, I have loved my job for the last 26 years and continue to do so on a daily basis and I hope to bring that love to the next generation!

The goal in educating students is to give them what the need so the can take it out into the real world and practice it to make a difference in their lives as well as others. Hopefully this will make them a good income as well.

i teach a large class 50 students at atime in law and ethics and the class is only one hour i find i do a lot of informal discussion do you think this is a good idea as i get a lot of opinions.

to help people how seek out developing the professional skills you present to understand success.

My goals are to make my students in a position to transfer their learned skills to the workforce in a smooth manner.Paul T. Rougemont

The goal of educating students is helping them to become productive members of society with the skills, knowledge, and behaviors they'll need to be successful in life and career.

To make sure they have the skills and confidence needed to go into the workforce and be sucessful knowing/feeling they know what to do, how to do it and who to ask if they get lost/nervous/forget something.

My goal in educating students is to give them every piece of knowledge that I can to prepare them for the world that they are about to enter. That world may be one that they are already in, if they are trying to better their current position, or a new career field altogether. If I do not give them this knowledge, I believe that I have failed them; their success is a direct effect of my teaching in my eyes.

Hi Mark:
Very true. If we can generalize for a moment, the goal might best described as "the impartation of knowledge".

Regards, Barry
