It gives the students guidelines of what is expected. I also like giving a wrong example and conduct an open discussion about what and why the example was wrong. Many students identify with this type of classroom learning tactic.
Beacuse is very important that the student have examples of future assigments and expectations from the class.
Especially in the environment I teach in (automotive education) it gives the student a sense of how the course is going to apply to their chosen careers.

By using examples of other students they are able to get an idea of whats expected of them
Hi Hayvelises,
I concur! I also like to show a student an average example as well.

Yes its true showing the students both way negative example and positive example..helps the student to have a better overview of the pertaining lecture and course
Hi Priscilla,
When a visual is shared, there is little to no room for misunderstandings.

Hi Kristi,
I concur! Exmaples really add great/better clarity for students, and they are put more at ease after being shown an example.

Students will have the best chance of success when they have a clear understanding of the expectations. They need a review of what level of work you expect and a very direct way is to show by example, rather than try to explain in an abstract way that might be misinterpreted.
Showing students examples of assignments that they will be doing will help them get a feel for what is required in the course. It will also help alleviate some of their anxiety.
I think it is a great idea to show them examples of positive and negative work. That would definitely help clarify the expectations.
I sometimes show a new group of students previous work, but I do not tell them if its good or bad. I have them read it and make comments. Some of the comments are outstanding, even on good work. Another set of eyes will always add a new spin on a topic. I once gave them some of my work masking it as a student. I not only got some improvement remarks but new ideas.
Hi Jennifer,
Visual adds better clarity for many students.

Hi Justian,
It is a great motivating tool and some students do go above and beyond the example.

Hi Christine,
Better clarity is provided when students can actually see an example.

Showing examples enables learners the opportunity to visualize the assignment gaining a higher understanding of the assigned material and what is expected of them.
I agree. It shows them a way forward, but it is human nature for a person to excel and do better than someone before them. With that being said, I feel that if you present an example of good work, that pushes a student to try to top the previous
It helps students to become excited about upcoming projects and what is expected from them
I believe showing the students examples of positive and negative work will let them know what is expected from them in the course
By showing the students an example of the upcoming work or assignments will keep the students attention and very interested in the field they are being prepared to enter into.
Showing examples give the student something to look for when the time come.
