Practical application: What they learn in the class WILL be used in the work place.
We teach animal grooming so we stress they must have a love for working with animals and that their interaction with people will be minimal.m If this is not for them we want to know up front.

We commonly use (and are extrememly familiar with) Enrollemnt Agreement, Marketing. These are part of my everyday vocabulary.

Started a manual our first year. Found we needed it to work with new or temp help. Everyone is required to read the material but no one is allowed to speak to prospective students until verbal training follows.

Admission is a techinical process, because the admission personel needs to know that the prospective student is assisted by making the the best choice and yes finding the right fit for both parties.

I just recently started and have been maintaining a folder with paperwork I found important. It didn't hit me until I read this that I was infact creating a resource notebook. This will be a great tool in my tool belt for my career in admissions. Now I have immediate access to items such as admissions reqs, defaults, class schedule, students activites and resources plus many more. Thank you for helping me focus on tuning into what is important for my notebook.

Thank you Dawn! After writing this blog I found later on in the program that it is recommended to update my book on a monthly basis not quartly one. So I'll need to stay on top of this which is vitally important to the school and student to be able to provide the most up-to-date information!

Some of the terms and definitions that are commonly used during the admission process at your institution are:

Applicant - a person that completed an admission form or a person that has applied to attend a program.

Acceptance - a person that has completed the enrollment form and the institution has approved to attend.

Alumni - a person(s) that have completed and graduated from a particular program or school.

Financial Aid - Explains to the student or applicant what financial options maybe available for payment of tuition.

GPA - Grade Point Average

Refund Policy - A policy or procedure in where a student may or may not get a refund of fees paid.

Non-Refundable Fee - A policy that explains on what fees paid are non-refundable.

Some terms and definitions commonly used during the admission process at my institution are:

Enrollment Agreement-A legally binding contract that is signed by applicants to licensed institutions as well as by authorized personnel at the institution. This contract forms the agreement to terms of enrollment and provides disclosures which inform consumers of important policies of the institution, which their signature indicates acknowledgement of.

Enrollment-Registering a student to take programs or courses at an institution when such registration obligates the student to pay tuition to the institution and obligates the institution to provide instruction to the student.

Financial Aid-is is a catch all phrase for all types of different types of aid available to the student. These can come from the federal government, local government, the students workplace and also the school that the student is planning on attending. Types of aid available to students are student loans, Pell grants, other grants as well, scholarships, and tuition reimbursement possibly from your employer.

I also had a similar information notebook, I will now update it with the most current guidelines, enrollment agreement, organizational chart and our most current advertising. What a great tool to have everything in one place as a reference.

I found the information to set up the Resource Notebook very imformative! It gave me great advice on how to organize it, keep it current as well as the resources to find any new changes to keep our Resource Notebook up-to-date.

I actually have a binder with tabs for all of the requirements of the education deparment. I keep all our forms/ catalog/ enrollment info in plastic sheet covers. I also keep a copy of my yearly renewal papers for future reference.

What's Important to You

Reflective - Pick issue, clarify, and show listening.

I am a visual person. For me a resource notebook is very helpful. I choose "terms & definitions" together with rules/regs. for "commission for independent education"...for starters.

Would you recommend any others?

The enrollment agreement constitutes the agreement between student and institution of which should be clearly explained to the prospective student and understood before signing.

Some terms commonly used at our institution are leads (first contact info) contact (actual communication with the lead via telephone, person, or email) schedule ( when the prospective has set up a date to meet with the recrutor and financial aid)

You bring up very good points in regard to this subject, and it will be very beneficial.

Commission
We explain to perspective students how important it is for the institutions they are considering to receive licensure from the CIE (Commission for Independent Education)as they provide regulatory oversight to private postsecondary institutions.
Unfortunately, there are some institutions misleading the public.

Patty-

Once we start offering CIE approved programs one of the most pertinent aspects will be the enrollment process. The enrollment process consists of walking the student through enrolling with our institution and making sure they understand the student handbook and being able to answer any questions or concerns that they might have about all aspects including but not limited to the tuition/refund policies and the obligations of both the school and the student. This will be clearly outlined in the enrollment agreement that is the contract that is legally binding and adheres to the rules of the CIE and laws of the State of Florida. The enrollment agreement clearly states the obligations of the student and the institution.

I feel it is vital to print out the Florida statutes and procedural code to have in the resource notebook. I've also can up with an idea to include in the faculty handbook information pertaining to the regulations on admissions training as well as putting in place quality control measures such as checking with the CIE on a quarterly basis to see if any changes have been made.

What type of things, other than the things mentioned in the training do some of you add to the Resource Notebook?
