Miriam,
No, the term "counselor" cannot be used. The Commission strictly forbids the use by admissions representatives or agents.

Patty Aronoff

The first time I was presented with the Florida Statutes and Rules and Regulations, I just tried to read straight through them. I printed them out and am going to go through them a read each of them, highlighting any that I need any clarification on.

For me the best way to retain the knowledge is to keep it handy to read and look at throughout the week/month. I won't be able to remember it by just looking at it a few times.

I am always searching for any updates on regulations and procedures. I also ask my director and instructors if i have any questions about the statutes and rules & regulations.

Please clarify the term Counselor?
Florida Statutes - (13) All licensed agents representing an institution shall be called agent, admissions representative, sales representative, or field representative. The terms counselor or advisor, or modifications thereof, shall not be used by agents.

Can the term Counselor be used for an admissions representative? FS Statues ONLY indicates that Agents, "shall not use this wording".

catherine,
Excellent! You are refining your knowledge and providing a quick reference when needed.

Michelle,

The rules can be changed at anytime during the year. The statutes are reviewed each legislative session and must receive approval through the process. Final approval comes from the governor into law.

Patty Aronoff

Miriam,

We should be referring to statute and rule to make sure we are applying these properly. We are bound by their requirements.

Patty Aronoff

Printing out those rules, highlighting the ones specific to my institution and reading them continually ensure that I know them and am prepared to follow them!

How often does the Florida rules and statutes change?

These Florida Statutes and Rules and Regulations are being re-learned by repetative practices with prospective students and cross referencing all documents against the FS Rules/Regulations and the Institutional Catalog for accuracy. Thus, any errors can then be omitted.

Lilian,

It does work! The regulations protect us and the students. It's a win-win.

Patty Aronoff

Erin,
However you keep the regulations, the most important factor is to read them, understand them, and apply them.

Patty Aronoff

Glaister,

Excellent! All employees need to be reminded of the compliance factor.

Patty Aronoff

that's simple we need to falow rules and regulations in order to provide the best assistant possible to all our prospect students; at the end it works; spite it is sometimes too much to know....

We have weekly compliance trainings as well as daily updates.

I agree with what most people are saying, reviewing and printing out everything for constant review. It is always good to keep things handy for if you have a slip of mind and need to refer back to it!

douglas,
Yes, repetition will make you more adept and knowledgeable. Always be in the habit of looking it up.

Patty Aronoff

Steven,
Great! I would have my staff read them out loud. Many times it sinks in quicker when we read it out.

Patty Aronoff

Veronica,
We need to know the statutes and rules and be able to apply them in our roles within the school.

Patty Aronoff

Allana,
We should know the other departments and how they serve our students. This is often an overlooked part of product knowledge. Start with an organizational chart and start learning about your school.
