ed102 student motivation

I am always looking for new techniques to keep students motivated and excited about their studies.  This course gave me several new ideas and reinforced ideas I already had been using in this area. I recommend this course to any instructor who is feeling like they are not keeping their students engaged and enthused.

EL102 Benefits

I am really looking forward to using the attrition management tips in order to help students who are feeling alienated or overwhelmed.

I enjoyed this course

We all forget so many things after so many years of teaching so this course made me realize just how important different teaching styles realy do make a difference in how you teach.  Thank you Max Knowledge for the wake up on teaching

ED111

This course was helpful in showing me ways to figure out new ways of creating student/instructor interaction, and to make my lecture more active. I have a new set of tools in my educational toolbox to assist me in implementing critical thinking into my lecture, in order to regain student attention and participation.

Repetition

I utilize repetition in my instruction. If I review it over and over I am hoping to move the required information from short term memory into long term memory.

Toughts, comments?

ED 111

This course was just what I needed. I have been trying to figure out new ways of creating student/instructor interaction, and to make my lecture more active rather than passive. I have come away with new tools of how to implement critical thinking into my lecture, in order to regain student attention and participation (which is usually lost at the 10 minute mark of passive lecture).

I highly recommend this course to any new Instructors, but also seasoned Instructors as well. We could all benefit with some new tricks up our sleeves!

ED109 - Lesson Plans

Being relatively new to the Career College world, I have struggled with the development of lesson plans that would help me become a more effective educator.  As I am gaining experience I am realizing more and more the importance of staying on track and the tools such as, lesson plans, rubrics, syllabi, etc. play in staying on task and becoming more effective in the classroom.  I am also utilizing technology to the extent that finances will allow.

3 Questions Learners Ask that Facilitators Must Answer to Improve Retention

Recently, I had the opportunity to blog on the Five Top Reasons for Student Attrition, yet there are also significant reasons why adult learners stay in school despite the obstacles. Each student may very well ask three categories of questions when he or she comes, or comes back, to school.

  1. What? What will I be expected to learn or know?
  2. How? How will it benefit me directly in concert with my career and/or personal objectives?
  3. Next? What next? How can I apply what I have learned? How does it integrate into what I already know and

Study Reveals The Best Study Strategies for College Students

John Dunlosky, Professor & Director of Experimental Training at Kent State University conducted a study to evaluate the efficiency of 10 popular study strategies students use in both high school and college. Ironically, the study found that some of the most common study strategies students use received very low ratings.

The study techniques that were found to be the worst included highlighting and underlining information, rereading, and summarization. Mental imagery, the practice of creating pictures to remember text, was found to be moderately effective. Additionally, elaborative interrogation (asking oneself "why"), self-explanation (explaining the text to oneself), and interleaved practice… >>>

110 Dealing with stress

Dealing with stress is one of the more crucial and demanding issues facing teachers.  Stress affects our personal and professional lives.  How we perform in the classroom is directly related to how we deal with stress.  Taking the online course in stress management is a very good reminder of how to cope.  It's an ongoing battle, for new stressors come up unexpectedly.  It's never too soon or too late to deal more effectively with stress to improve our well-being.

Classroom to Employer: What Our Faculty Should Know

The mission of the career training sector of higher education has always been, and will always be, to teach adult learners the applicable skills needed for employment and promotion in careers that are in demand. As we develop and implement ongoing training for our faculty on ways to enhance student success in school and in the workplace, one key factor is to focus on a specific bridge between the classroom and the workplace. New generation of students

Is it just me or has the last threee years brought in a new generation of learners? For me in my department the attitude and intensity of the new students has weaned a little the need for knoweledge is not as strong.  Many are only here using the GI bill or dads money to get out of the house. They seem more interested in talking and texting or video play on the phone. I had to dismiss 10 student in three weeks for texting and gaming in class.  Of the ten many were either turning in incomplete papers or trying… >>>
