Technology in the Classroom

I just completed ED107 and think this is a good forum to discuss some of the new technology that we are using in the classroom. What works? What doesn't work well?

I started using Panopto this year which records my lecture and Powerpoints for students to watch at a later time. My students love this technology and say it helps them to review what was covered.

ED109

I am really disappointedin ED 109, I was hoping for much more and felt that the final was a trick quiz. Some of the material I can use, however, most is not applicable to my teaching. I have never scored so low on a test. The rest of the ED classes are fantastic. This particular lesson plan needs to be revamped and made more applicable.

Cosmetology Instructor ED 101

The ED 101 was a great help towards a few things related to teaching in cosmetology, but i would like to hear from a few other instructors in the same feild what they believe helps them keep students happy and interested during class? I would say I try to keep it more hands on, i believe repitition and applying the technique they see helps them learn better.

Clinical teaching

I had a lot of insight from learning the clinical didactics on max knowledge. I took three other courses prior to these which were also very helpful for me.

ED101

Max Knowledge is an exceptional tool that enrishes and enhances my teaching career. It greatly improves my teaching skills and experince; I am going to follow its guidelies to serve my students' needs better. It clearly defines and enlightens my primary role as a teacher.

LESSON PLANNING

I HAD A GREAT OPPURTUNITY TO COMPLETED THIS COURSE.I HAVE BETTER IDEA ABOUT WHAT AND HOW TO INCORPORATE DIFFERENT RESOURCES AND USE ALL OF THEM EFFECTIVELY FOR EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND LEARNING.

E 102

Lots of information that has been put on my back burner now has been ignited. Thanks

ED106 - Students with Learning Disabilities

I enjoyed the ED106 module - especially the section/emphasis on students with learning disabilities.  What was once an exception to deal with in the classroom, is now becoming a reality to all instructors.  As we advance in the diagnosis and treatments of various learning disabilities, we are seeing an increase of affected students in the classroom.

I really liked the outline of the most common learning disabilities we are most likely to encounter in the academic arena, and the strategies to provide a learning environment that gives all students the opportunity to learn while maintaining an inclusive atmosphere.  I think… >>>

ED311

I very much enjoyed this course. ED311 is filled with ideas to use in the classroom and the ideas can be adapted to the material you are teaching.  Finally, a course that gives ideas and just doesn’t talk about how we need to change the way we teach.

You can not not communicate

Clearly, one of the most important components is recognizing the peripheral route processing Adult Learners unwittingly employ resulting in 80% of communication problems.  It is imcumbant upon the speaker to "get the mail through."  Our tone of voice, our body language, and or our manner of dress oftentimes sabatoge or even abort our message.  One of my chief deficits; I send a more tenor than intended.  We're still working on me; a work in process.  TQM would have us believe we never reach perfection; we continually strive, resulting in continuous improvement.

ED101

ED101 was good for me since I am a neophyte when it comes to teaching; Learned good information relevent to teaching a college course.

ksalamalekis

I found this course helpful in teaching me a better way to teach.  After a lecture, I utilize active learning methods or educational games to help students prep for a test

ED104

I found this class to be very interesting.  As a new instructor for the adult learner I feel like all of the helpful advice will really make my first year a lot easier.  I do spend most of my time worrying about things that never happen, it is so true!  Communication and preparation are key!

ed209

I found this course to be very beneficial

ED107

I thought the course overall was ok. I was very disappointed in 2 aspects of it that I can't seem to get past. This is a course about using many types of aids to simulate memory, retention and learning and yet:

1. Section 2 of the course is all about the use of color and visual impact. Then in Section 3 we are faced with Graphic 3.3, a table catagorizing 'Intellegences". The black text on the blue boarder makes it extremely hard and frustrating to read. I found this to be very disappointing to say the least. To make… >>>

ED106

I found this course particularly helpful with strategies for dealing with students with learning disabilities.  As I began teaching adult learners in the career college program, I initially approached my teaching with certain assumptions about the students' skills and quickly learned that I would have to regroup and adapt my lessons to be much more accomodating than I expected.  This course was very helpful to help validate some of my approaches and offered some helpful insights into additional approached to help deal with adult learners in general, especially when a disability is suspected or identified.

ED 102

This course topic is intrinsic to all educational avenues. Retention is on everyone's mind; how to retain those students who are borderline, unsure why they are there. Keeping interest in a topic is the sign of a great instructor. I am pleased to have several instructors who can be considered great. They find the needs of the students and integrate those requirements within the class structure. Our field is a proprietary for profit which does increase the need for sharpness in the classroom. Knowing what the adult learner and the young learner need, is a talent that is well received… >>>

ED105

ED105 was an effective course for preparing for instruction and the importance of instructional delivery methods.  The course emphasized the importance using student feedback to select appropriate teaching strategies based on student need.  It also presented effective ways creating an informative and fair grading system.

Classroom management

Excellent course. I liked the four types of classroom managers. We all hope we are guides, not controllers.  The course explains the types and gives us a chance to analyze our actions in the classroom.  This is always a good thing.

How this course has helped me as an Instructor

I was really impressed with this course, it's interactivity, and its relevance education. It really got my to re-evaluate my own teaching techniques, and acquire new ones to implement. Especially in regard to my lecture abilities. I will definitely be using shorter lectures, and use critical thinking exercises with my students in order for them to stay engaged, and to retain the knowledge I am trying to teach.
