EXTRA CREDIT

Students are more willing to complete extra credit assignments to help their scores in the course. In teaching Accounting, I've found that most of my students love completing extra credit, not only because of the points, but it gives them more knowledge on the material.

PLAN B

It is imperative to have a PLAN B readily available just in case PLAN A does not work. Engaging students in learning is not only beneficial to the students, but it shows the instructor that they are understanding the material that is being taught.

Understanding the students individual learning styles

With students learning style being different. It is a great advantage to teach to touch every sense of learning style in the classroom. Versatile teaching enables me to connect with all the students. Some learn by hearing, while others are visual or hands on. As an instructor I am committed to going the extra mile to ensure that I am reaching all the students when lecturing.

GUEST SPEAKERS

I've noticed that guest speakers in the classroom provides students with information about the field they are pursuing. These speakers are able to help students understand the importance of acquiring knowledge and utilizing it in their careers.

Creating an evaluation system

The evaluation system we created is working well in our campus. For the didactic portion, I assigned: 10% for attendance, quizzes and attitude grade 50% for long exams-minimum of 3 per module 40% for final exam For the laboratory portion, I assigned: 40% for lab book and a powerpoint presentation 60% for competencies -a one in one practical exam Final Grade is 60% taken from didactic grade 40% taken from Lab. grade Thanks for giving me an idea of how to give extra credits for those absent during exams or with failing grades.

Instructional back-up plan

I realized the importance of back-up plans because it is really true that sometimes students are failing to understand the keypoints of our presentation. Plan B is so important and based on the bad experience from Plan A it becomes easier to choose a better type of presentation and with all the instructional supports available a big relief is easy to accomplish. Thanks for the awareness.

extra credit

how do i know if i'm give extra credit to the wright students

Informing students of their progress

It is extremely important to keep students informed as to their progress in class. I provide my students with a progress report once a week. This report includes all areas in which they are graded. I add comments, as needed to students who are doing well as well as those who may need some additional help. In addition I will provide a progress report at any time upon student request. The key to a good progress report is keeping up on grading; it has to be up to date.

Instructional support

Based on my teaching experience the powerpoint presentation is for me my basic tool and in between discussions I use the chalk/white board to elaborate some important points. I usually do illustrations/drawings of the organ or region of interest. The models are also my guardian angel to make it even simpler for students to understand. Other instructional supports are drawn as well when needed like the audio/video and overhead transparencies etc. Thanks for this training, it is a big moral support for me that what I'm really doing is in the right track.

Guest speaker

We normally do this when we need a detailed discussion on a certain topic like "Diagnostic Procedures" done by physicians in the hospital assisted by sonographers that we don't do in the campus. Examples are breast biopsy, hysterosonography, amniocentesis and many others. The physician who really does these procedures in the hospital can really discuss this topic thoroughly, simply and with a better understanding for students especially when accompanied by a demo. Students will appreciate these because they start to become aware of their role as sonographers in the field. I really recommend guest speakers to visit our schools.

building a performance based evaluating system

this is a result base evaluating system which helps and informs both instructor as well as the student regarding their performance and how to improve it.

to make new strategies to deliver

it is very important to come out with new straegies to delver the lecture as we have diversities of students with different backgrounds.

combine elements of more than one type of delivery methods

is the best way for the students to learn

to know your objective very well

the most important thing before going to the class is to be well prepared with your istructional strategies.

hands on learning

I like to involve my students actively in the classroom by having open discussions about that day's course content. I list key points on the board and repeat them throughout the class time to ensure the students are hearing and seeing the key points multiple times.

having a plan B

as a new teacher, I make sure to have a backup plan for each class. This helps me keep the class on track with the material that is needed to be covered.

your personality in the classroom

Incorporating your personality in to what you teach is a great way to engage your students and build rapport with them.

105

Students must be evaluated to determine how well they aborbed the material, however how that evaluation process is calculated is critical to the student.

105

Timing of instruction is a critical aspect of teaching. 20 minute periods of instruction are adequate for students in a insructional course that is mostly hands on.

105

Power point appears to be the instructional media format that is used most often, however drawing diagrams on a white board can have a big impact due to overexposure to a power point presentation.
