Power Points

While preparing power points the students learning behavior should be kept in mind and one slide should not have more than 4-5 points and it should have graphics too.

Preparing yourself for class.

Before you prepare for the class I think we should put ourselves in their shoes only then we will be able to make the students understand.

Support Materials

I believe that support materials help yo give that extra flare you need in your lessons.

Learning Obejectives and Standards

Learning Objectives are extremely important. For me I belive that they help me stay on track in making sure that I am covering everything needed.

Students

It is important to know who your students are and their learning styles. Not all students learn the same way. It is important to incorporate many different styles in your lesson plans to reach all students.

Student input

I too beleive that student input is important to a certain extinct. It is important that students are able to express their feelings about what they are learning as long as it doesn;t cross the line or interfere with the objectives.

I have walked in their shoes

I returned to the Educational Facility from which I graduated to become an Instructor after being out in the field. I tell my students on the first day that I have walked in their shoes down these very same hallway's, learned the same information that they are about to learn, performed the same projects that they themselves are about to perform and dealt with the same environmental issues. I even still have my school I.D. badge that I keep behind my regular I.D. badge just to show them where I came from. I believe that this gives me some credibility to my students.

Online test

I provide a number of ways to take the test. In class and online. We take the test in class without notes. If they are satisfied with their grade that is the grade they will get. If not they can take the online test during their own time as many times as they want with or without notes. I will take the average of the two test, in class without notes and on their own online for their grade. In the event they were absent or have to take a make up I take off 30% of the online grade they receive. What you you think of this method? I figure the repetition of taking the test will instill terms and the like.

Students without sufficient background experience

Inevitably I will get two students that are polar opposites in terms of background experience. One will have not have enough prerequisite skill to keep up and they feel frustrated while the other might be a bit advance for the course that they be come bored with the pace of the class. I have found it beneficial to pair these students together. The frustrated student will have someone turn to if they missed something and the advance student finds out new ways of communicating what they know reinforcing their knowledge and perhaps leading to new discoveries. What do you think of this possible solution?

Follow along demonstrations.

I have found that follow-allong demonstrations, handouts, and personal student to student follow up is a good combination when trying to teach involved skills. They can follow along during class and if then missed the lecture they can follow the handout on their own time. Or if the student feels the lecture is to slow they can use the handout to finish early. I will try to insert positive aspects of my personality in this process. So far the response from students has been great.

Preparing New Lesson Plan

You can only imagine how much time and energy you'll save by implementing lesson plan and saving them for present and future use. This has been helpful

Material

Material is outlined and we follow a grid. I set mine up in order for the entire mod. so I know what I am doing the next day. I keep a log book for all I have done and a calendar to keep track of tests and quizzes. Organization is the key. P O'Dwyer

Standards

Learning objectives and standards is a task in itself. Bringing someone in a world they have not lived is like learning to walk again. You have to have patience and always reach a hand out for them to hold onto. P O'Dwyer

Lesson Plan

My book must go with my skills. When I am teaching the heart we are learning ekg's and doing them. Making the plan so everything compliments each other is a very useful tool. When you get to many things in the pot it does not taste like soup anymore. Keep it simple not pressure. P O'Dwyer

Lesson Plan

I think all the time of different ways to introduce material. Sometimes in a crossword at the opening of class or a word search. I plan with my syllabus as I have other classes that take place during the semester. Keeping on course and making sure I cover everything for that day is very important to me. I do board work as well as power point and hands on skills. That is all planned in time increments as to make sure all is done at the end of the day. I like to give a heads up on the next days work in case someone wants to play dead. Time is the utmost importance. P O'Dwyer

Lesson plans

I've come to value the importance of utilizing lesson plans especially when I am teaching a relatively new class or when filling in as a sub. My past tendency was to 'wing it' and trust my ad lib skills. But class content changes with time and I have found that preparation i.e lesson plans aids me in presenting course work and also in handling student questions. You can never be over-prepared for class.

leture notes

Should lecture notes be giving to students, if it free up time, to do more hands on? why or why not?

Standards

How do we help students fulfill the standards, when you just can not figure out their learning style?

Lesson Planning

Is it appropriate to include the students in the lesson plan? (as far as types of activities)

Who Is Your Audience

What is the best way to accomodate the many different learning style into a lesson with a larger class?
