keeping your focus on the students

I always give my student 110% I enjoy tutoring,answering questions and giving real live stories about what were teaching.

Motivating Students

We must be excited (motivated) about our class. If not, how will the students ever get excited?

Student motivation

As a career college instructor I have noticed that diffrent students need to be motivated in diffrent manners. and it is not determined by age,race, gender,ect. but by indivual needs.some of the students who are making a career change might need to be motivated by diffrent tequniques.sometimes positive reinforcement might be you telling them that they are doing good, but also they might be set in there ways. After a career change you might have get the student to look things in a diffrent prespective which might not be a motivation issue.unless they hit a wall. then the instructor should be ready to help the student break thru the wall

Student Rapport

There must always be a balance between leader and friend. Too much rapport will cause an enormous lack of respect.

Inspiring Motivation

Motivating all students with equal enthusiasm seems at times touch and go. Some times crash and burn. I think a clear understanding of their expectations and the expectations of the instructor is needed. How?

keeping the students motivated is very difficult. Dealing with different personalities and problems. Talking with them on a one to one seems to work well.

I agree that the instructor needs down time however we need to give as much time to the student on a one to one basis as possible.

FRUSTRATED STUDENTS

I notice student getting frusted when they are told one thing by one person of authority and something different by another person.

school admin is not available to aid in student frustrations

what are appropriate ways to handle student concerns if the proper school admin is not readily available or shows a lack in concern for the students issues?

FOCUS ON THE STUDENT

Sometimes it gets to be difficult to keep focused on the students.Teaching in a vocational school,we have short time periods for our courses,a lot of information must be given in the time alotted,so sometimes you get caught up in the job instead of the purpose for being there.and that is the education of the student.The REFOCUS for recharging and getting your head straight does help,but also do not forget about your self,sometimes just taking a day to relax and re-energize your self,gives you a better mind set and out look towards your class.

Student Frustration when Instructors get s off topic

This is something that new Instructors can easily get caught up in. However some instructor are looking for some of the same needs as the students, belonging and "student" approval. How can I get my instructors to stay on course and limit the discussion of personal thing with the class?

Personal attention

do a meet and greet every morning at the class room door this makes the student know he is welcome not just a number hold a conversation for a minute or so be available to the students when in lab speak to each student about what's going on make sure they are getting every thing possible out of every lab don't let a couple of students monoplize your time that gets into another problem be happy be square with the students give them that personal touch and in most cases it will be one of the best classes you've had

Approach

How we Approach students has a big effect on the response we get from them. As instructors we all want to be respected by our students, however It is of paramount importance that we understand that respect is a two way street, how we interact with any student makes a huge difference in the outcome. If we see ourselves as superior to our students, this attitude will come across in our interaction and the student will pick up on it right away. The only difference between us and our students is many years of experience, on a human level everyone deserves a level of respect, I have found that when I practice this in my dealings with my students the respect I get in return is amazing K.Torres Avondale

Student Frustration

Their frustrated because they have to work at it , and it's not just given to them , basicaly it's not easy.

starting the new class can always be a challenge if the class setting is fun the instructor honest and sincere. show the student you care but have class control don't be a tyrant but be strict you can always loosen up but being their friend right off the bat is usually a mistake

Building Rapport

When discussing your own carreer paths with students don't just talk about the good stuff talk about your own short comings your own failures this let's the student know that we don't do it right all the time

Student Frustrations

I have seen an issue where a student's frustration with a government agency almost derailed her in class. This external frustration occupied so much of her thought processes that she couldn't focus on what she was doing. Learning to recognize those issues in students and redirecting their focus will be one of the major challenges for us as instructors.

Acknowledge students positively!

Acknowledge students positively I have found that a student will respond as he is acknowledged. If the instructor has a positive attitude and acknowledges the student pleasantly at all time, in the hall ways or at the door, and even away form the campus. The word gets out and students come in to the class with the expectation that this is going to be a pleasant experience, and they will like the instructor before they have formally met. It is contagious try saying good morning or hello to every one you pass, it will come back around
