One as a teacher, you want to be organized to be able to present your material to your students and Secondly your students appreciate when your showing that effort to organize the material, and it shows them that you know what your doing.

The best way to become organized that I have found is to put more information on a thumb drive or a lap top . This will create less papers being scattered on your desk plus all the information you will need is on your thumb drive. Then any questions a student may have is at the touch of a button. This will also show students that you are just as quick as them on a computer, also it strikes up good discussions.

Being organized and prepared prior to going to class, instills in student your outlook on the importantance of the class material. You want to insure to the students the value in the world of work.

helps students develop a sense of trust in the instructor

creates a sense of order and predictability for the class

Hi Ernest:
To put it the opposite way, what message does it send if we are disorganized? Might it come across as "I don't care about your learning"?

Regards, Barry

Hi Nancy:
Think of the message it sends when we are disorganized. Being disorganized may suggest "I don't care enough about your learning to be prepared for you".

Regards, Barry

Hi Lawrence:
The nice thing about the approach you are describing is that it does not allow for students to say "I didn't know that was the expectation about XYZ". Especially if you are having them sign a page of understanding.

Hi Joyce:
Sure, anytime we can make student more comfortable with learning, that'll be a good thing.

When students feel their teacher has put effort into their class, they're be more respectful, and maybe a bit more diligent in their own studies as they see the instructor works just as hard as they do in achieving class objectives.

Being organized and prepared for class allows the instructor to teach with ease and to let the students understand the importance of being prepared by you being a role model. Being prepared allows the lesson to just flow and for the students to feel more comfortable in the class.

Hi Cory:
Students repect a teacher when they feel the students interest's and success in the class are a priority, and the teacher is willing to facilitate assisting them. Preparation and organization often demonstrate these feelings in students.

Being organized and prepared not only serves as a role model for your students, but it shows you respect their time and desire to learn from you.

Hi John:
Preparation does set the tone and expectations. Students will operate at the level the teacher sets. If done with care, courtesy and respect, the whole level of a class can be raised by adequate demonstration of "being there" and ready to roll!

This in turn may also send a false message to the students that it is ok, not to be prepared for class or work. This could lead to bad habits or unemployment, due to the instructor sets the tone and manner of the class.

Hi Robert:
In addition to loss of credibility, disorganization may lead to sending the wrong message to the student, something along the lines of "I don't care enough about your learning to be organized for you"

Regards, Barry

Hi Deborah:
Also, if the instructor is disorganized, it may send the wrong kind of message, something like "I don't care enough about your learning to be organized".

Regards, Barry

It shows that the instructor is well prepared for what he is about to teach. It also will show that the instructor cares about the field of expertise he is teaching and that the students will get a very good wealth of knowledge from that instructor.

Being prepared, and organized in school and the work force is hugh. Organization is key in getting your work done efficiently and in a timely manner. I try to practice what I teach. If I am not organized or prepared for class I cannot function efficiently. I know it and my students can see it. It is important to the management of my class. We are role models and mentors. What students learn in the classroom will be carried to the workplace. We owe it to our students to be good role models.

As a responsible instructor you need to set by example. You are the professional and you want your students copy your behaviors. If you do not show them organization, students will have a poor image of your professionalism. Students see you as an expert in your field and for that reason you need to be prepared to show them your expertise in the field.

If your are not prepared as an instructor your students will not take your class seriously.
