Lisa,
Nice sentiment. If we get students to be critical thinkers, I think we will have prepared them for all of life's events, not limited to their work only.

Barry Westling

The goal of educating students is to prepare students for the real work situations that they will face. Educating students, to me, does not stop at simply teaching the skills required to get by but rather lies in teaching students the skills to be successful in whatever they choose.

Amanda,
Yes, and I think if we can create critical thinkung graduates, we will helped them not just in work, but all that life will present to them.

Sokpheap,
Great concept. Knowledge, skill, and attitude all play an important role in our mission to prepare students. "Grade-smart" is not helpful if a graduate is not "people-smart", or all thumbs, skill wise.

The goal of educating students is to give them the tools/skills/foundation they need to succeed in a real life setting.

I am a dental assisting instructor. My goal for my student is to not only help them succeed in class, but to know are they learning the material they need to know inorder to pass their state test. Will I feel comfortable for each student who gradated to work on any of my family members? Once I answer yes on these two questions then I know I had done my job.

Gina,
Great. Too, I think true dedication has to be something internally driven, but we can create the setting for through role modeling. Also, examples of how not to be (not dedicated) can be very instructive to instill that inner drive to be as good as possible.

The goal of educating students is build a good foundation for them to continue to work in their field of study. With a great education and dedication not only from the student, but a dedicated instructor can help a student benefit in the work place.

Leon,
Of course a basic goal is to impart the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for success on the job. If we can add critical thinking and professional behavior to that list, we'll have helped them for life - both in and outside of work.

To transform them into good, productive citizens ....

by teaching them how to apply knowledge to solve problems in their lives and career fields.

Socrates,
Wonderful. I like your comments, especially about curiosity and self learning. Whatever we can do for students to create a desire for lifelong learning will help them in every setting - not just work. And having a natural curiosity about their work and in their lives produces opportunities for critical thinking, and that will lead to improved work performance, and a more abundant, richer life in general.

I have certain goals that I hope my students achieve after taking my courses. My most important goals are : students will be active in their own learning, demonstrate creativity and curiosity, and gain a deep understanding of content and be able to apply this knowledge to problems in and out of the classroom.

Brooke,
Knowledge, skill...and attitude are all important attributes (goals) to prepare students for the real world of work for which they are training. Any way we can add these traits to our graduates will be helpful upon initial entry into their profession, and extend for many years to come.

Barry Westling

The goal is to train AND educate for a future role in the subject being studied and impart the knowledge to do it well.

Vickie,
Real life situations related to the job force are a great way to capture attention and demonstrate or illustrate a key point that students should remember. It adds flavor to the learning process, and learning is really at the core of our goal for educating.

Barry Westling

I feel the goal is to prepare students in every possible way to succeed in the field they are being trained in. Not only do they need the formal curriculum and testing, but I feel strongly that it is my responsibility to give them enough practical and hands-on training to help prepare them for real job situations.I often incorporate real-life scenarios from my own job experience to help educate my students.

Vanessa ,
Good. Too, I think if we can give students practice with developing critical thinking skills, we can help them in life as well as prepare them for the work setting.

Barry Westling

The goal of educating students is to give them the knowledge base needed to acquire a level entry job in their fiel of study. Also to teach them learning skills to continue their education.

ROBBYN,
For me, I want them job ready with the knowledge, skills, and attitude that leads to initial and sustained employment. The professional development aspect is so important, I try to incorporate and reinforce the value employers put on these kind of soft skills that make for better employees.

Barry Westling

Hello,
The goal of educating students is to help them become more knowledgeable. By doing this it provides them the knowledge they need to work in their selected field. It also helps them to expand knowledge so they can pursue further education in the future, should they decide too.
