If you know the learning syle of the student you can teach using more of the perferred style and the sudent will be more involved and learn better. The students will also enjoy the class and find learning a more pleasant experience.

Determining the different learning styles of my students greatly enhances the entire classroom environment...At our school, there is an assessment exercise that we can give to our students to help identify individual styles.....Once determined, the information can be presented to include the different styles of the students....Involving different styles keeps a greater number of students involved....That goes a long way in keeping me better involved...Motivated students helps to enhance my motivation....The more excited they are, the more excited I become.....

Basically, I use the kinesthetic method when teaching MA 118 Computer Applications. However, a deeper appreciation must first be established so the my students will try to learn all the applications as early as possible. I tell my students that this is a prerequisite course and they will need to learn all these software applications in order to complete their project which their teachers need to assign them.

Here at Sanford Brown,I teach MA118 Computer Applications. Basically, my students have to learn Keyboarding, MS Word, MS Excel and MS Powerpoint in a module. Each project the students have to do is shown on the class projector and students are supposed to learn all these three software applications within the module. Students are enforced to learn thru the kinesthetic method.

It is crucial for you to know and understand student learning styles to effectively have each student meet the course objectives. Understanding and using this can greatly broaden your teaching activities and abilities.

I know we all have a preferred learning style, but I teach computers, and I believe the best way to learn them is to actually be hands on with them. I understand that there are some concepts that cannot be taught in this manner, but generally, the best way to learn the information in my program is to actually do it. We have laid the program out to actually be very heavy on hands on activities.

Hi Lauren, Absolutely, when we insist on using only one delivery style we do often waste our time as we may be reaching only a small percentage of our students. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

The benefit is knowing how to get your message and content across to the student in manner that will produce the greatest learning effect.

If you know the learning styles of your students you will be able to reach most of the students in your class (50% to 60%).

By knowing what type of learning style your students are will help your students better comprehend new ideas and new material when they are connected to with the correct type of learning style.

because of the diversity of student population in this institution, you have to based the delivered method of your instruction on the learning styles of the students.

I never really thought much about the delivery methods that I choose. I am more aware now of various learning styles.

I think in a lot of our classes, we have a lot of labs so there is a lot of hands on and that is usually pretty helpful for all students.

Obviously the better the reception/retention the better the outcome; a measure of instructor success. I find it difficult at times because I get too involved in the material or a discussion and 'forget' that there are others around.

The benefite of knowing the leaning styles of your students will aid the productivity of learning. The instructor would capture the minds and hearts of the student, which makes for a better student.

Hi Sandra, Thanks for your post to the forum. Yes, since it is really unrealistic to expect to deliver material to address every learning style in every class, we just need to strive to do so as often as possible. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
