Students will be more interested in learning what you are teaching. Students comprehension is greater.
This knowledge can help with daily lesson planning.
Hi Jodi - Thanks for your post to the forum. I agree that most students benefit from our use of varied delivery styles. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Knowing how each learner learns improves my ability to instruct the learner.
Knowing the learning styles of my students helps me decide what delivery method I am going to use the most during class. I try to use mutiple delivery methods, because most of my students learn from a few different methods.
Hi Mary - thanks for your post to the forum. LOL -yes, varying our delivery does keep us excited about teaching! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
I assess my students learning styles each new class so that I am able to adjust my deliverance to the individual class for a more sucessful outcome.
The benefit is to have better results from all the students. To be able to attract all the students to actively participate and successfully learn the lesson is the ultimate goal of every teacher. Blending all the different styles will only enhance the learning environment. Ok it also keeps the students and instructor awake and lert too!!
It helps me to be flexible to accommodate the different styles of learning. Also, by offereing a variety of formats this keeps most of the students involved and attentive, It also addresses each style so there is a "something for everyone".
Also keeping it to "why" is this important, "Why do you think . . ." "what do you think would be . . ." keeps students' attention and keeps them on track. It helps creative a positive learning expereince for them and motivation for me.
Achieving effective education for each student really does require applying the principles promoted here. Not every person adapts easily when presented with an alternate learning style method, that is, there are those who are fixed on their own preferred style as the way they learn. Others may be more adaptable, utilizing a secondary learning style almost as effectively as their preferred style. In any case, identifying the primary and/or secondary style for each person is important to establish early on during most educational processes.
Benefits: you can identify better with your students and have improved communications.
How: By knowing your students learning styles you can allocate the delivery of your course material to support all the learning styles in your course. This will ensure your course delivery is well rounded and supports all the different learning styles of your students.
This helps to build a rappor with the students that puts them in a comfortable frame of mind to learn the info. Thier learning styles have a big influence on thier comfort
This helps a teacher be an "effective" teacher. If we do not know how our students learn, how can be teach them and a good teacher.
I think by knowing their learning styles it not only helps the students but also helps the teacher - It makes our job much easier. Sometimes coming up with ways to incorportae all the different learning styles is difficult and I struggle with coming up with ideas to do so.
This will allow the instructor to prepare different methods of delivery for course materials.
Allows for advance planning
Hi Tina- Excellent -Your students will really benefit! Susan
Hi Monica - Thanks for your post to the forum. You are clearly very enthusiastic about teaching!
Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Emeka - Thanks for your post to the forum. Even when I know that most of my students prefer one style, I still try to very my delivery now and then. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
As an instructor, It only takes a class or two for me to identify the learning styles of my students. Some students learn by listening (to lectures and explanations) some learn by audiovisual means while others learn by doing (kinesthetics). I try to apply all methods in my first few classes before choosing a more predominant method that applies to most of the students.
I agree with these statements. Sometimes we do have to go out of our comfort zones in order to help the student. Knowing their learning styles does help.
I love that thought. It would certainly be worth the time and effort! Thanks for the idea.
