The instruction bens are that I can better tailor my presentation/material to the styles of the student to make sure the info is communicated.
The more they learn, the better I look!
Knowing the learning styles of my students has the instructional benefit of increasing the likelihood of success for those students who do not necessarily benefit as much from, for instance, the lecture style which is predominant in my experience. Adding powerpoint, engaging students in discussion, using in-class written assignments, home reading assignments from the textbook, are all methods that should increase the effectiveness of instruction. It is a given, in my course, that hands-on lab is coordinated with classroom instruction because entry level tactile performance is the end objective.
It is like understanding the students language. If we understand their language and adapt to it then we can deliver the message where they can understand.
I can customize the types of media or forms of presentation to the learning styles of my students. This can provide learning experiences which allow students to learn more effectively. And, perhaps, the use of diversified learning styles could be used to have students interact with one another to support their learning experiences?
Learning the styles of your students allows you to plan your classes accordingly and also allows you to use those methods for instructional delivery.
If there is a student who is struggling, the instructor will be able to help the student more effectively if the student's learning style is known. The instructor can use a method that is the easiest for the student to understand. Also, the instructor may be able to give the student ideas on how to more effectively study the material.
Knowing the different learning style of my students i can dicide what type of presentation i have to use. But this can be tricky to decide when you have a group of 30 students with diferent learning styles.

Hi Vicki,
I am in total agreement with small groups and having students problem solve together.More inputs can reach a goal much faster and you can learn from others using all tools; visual, written or which ever applies to get the task done.
When I have and understanding of the learning styles of my students it allows me to meet their learning needs. All students are different so I try to have different styles to keep all parties forcused and involved. This helps them to be more ingaged and leave the class having a connection and understanding with the materials and skills given.

As an instructor, you have to understand that everyone learns differently and try to include all the different styles so the message can get to the student. I use Power point lectures, have the students do different activities, and keep the class interesting. it is very important to keep it as fun and exciting as possible.
This was a very important topic of our faculty development workshop.. It went on to understanding the styles and personalities of green, orange, red, and blue.. as relates to a person being competitive vs non competitive, etc.
