Hi Wilmanie,
Special formatting and seeing a visual really help the information to stick.

I underly, bold, and use a larger font for all the important requirements so the students can see it more easily. I write on the board the assignments that are due for the following class.

Hi Bibi,
When a signature is secured, students understand the seriousness of the document.

We discuss the syllabus together on the first day of class. The students also sign acknowledgement of the syllabus and understanding.

Hi Christinia,
Love it! What a thorough job of making course requirements clear. Students can not use the excuse, they did not know.

Patricia Scales

Hi William,
You do a fine job of making course requirements clear. I can tell you want your students to succeed.

Patricia Scales

Hi Class,
On the first day of class which is my orientation day, I provide a course syllabus, calendar and a "What I Learned Today" handout. We read the syllabus and go over the calendar together. I have the students input assignments, test, projects, and homework that are due on the actual calendar dates. This is so the students has a clear understanding of their course requirements and expectations. This also gives the students time to ask questions about the course. Before class ends, I have the students turn in their "What I Learned Today" handout and we review it together as a class.

My blueprint for A&P is my syllabus. I try to have everything the students need and can expect in it. In addition, I email (group) all students as to what we did in class that day and what is coming up in the next 3 classes. I have a penalty for homework turned in late but like the idea on a decreasing grade for number of days missed. I hope that it will make more students more focused on keeping up with the course. I remind students throughout the semester what my policies are. I rarely make exceptions to them as that tends to cause confusion later when one student wants special treatment because I already gave another one an exception to the rules. The applys mainly to my homework and make up quiz policy. I have found that students will try to get away with way too much if allowed to.

I review the syllabus and the layout with the students at the begininng of class. I tell them where they can look if they forget what chapters to read or what I had assigned. I will also write it out on the white board in class to remind them of what currently we are going over in class and what we will cover at next class time. I will also write out what assignments are due for the next class time.

I will also post on portal where students have access 24 hours a day the power point, notes, assignments, or references.

They should never be confused on what is expected.

Hi Monica,
I like to thoroughly go over the syllabus and have a question and answer session to provide course requirements clarity.

Video's and demonstration, I love to observe to evaluate knowledge

I use the syllabus and use the announcement and calandar to show when assignments are due.

I pass out a course syllabus to all students, I go over the course objectives and all of the chapters we will be covering. I also give examples of those chapters and why we will be learning from those chapters. I also let them know what the End Phase Lab test will be and how it will be conducted.

On the first day of class I have several handouts I pass out to my students. The first is a syllabus which gives a detailed description of what the student can expect to accomplish on each day of class, and on the back of the syllabus I provide an area for the students to keep track of their tests scores, and any time missed from class.
Another sheet I give them is explains my criteria for grading of their lab packages. I go over the fact they must be actively engaged in the lab exercises, wear the proper safety equipment when in lab, turn in lab sheets on the day due, and be accurate in the information they provide, and several other specific points tailored to the particular subject I’m instructing.
I also have PowerPoint presentations I show while they review the handouts, which reaffirms that everyone is seeing and reading the correct information as I explain it.
They are told that a failure to meet all requirements as stated will result in a grade point reduction, and the points that will be assessed.
I do make allowances for students that miss class due to a documented illness or military duty. By giving them the rules and requirements for my class on the first day I let them know my expectations, and how they can achieve the highest grade in my class.
Helping them to be successful is my goal, and I feel providing them with the above helps ensure I meet my goal.

I use the syllabus, hand-outs, and write daily assignments on the board at the beginning of class

Hi Della,
You are on point. It is important to communicate. Students love it when we are approacable and welcoming.

Patricia Scales

Communication is the key. Requirements should be written out and reviewed as a group. Questions and concerns should be addressed immediately and feedback from students welcomed.

Hi Michele,
I like to thoroughly go over my syllabus with my students. I have learned that most of our students do not like to read.

Patricia Scales

They are part of the syllabus as well as each self contained assignment
