I agree with this whole heartedly. If they have a calander they can always be referenced back to it as a frame of reference
I am a new instructor. So far I have used a calendar that lists the topic, assignment, tests or quizzes, and deadlines. I hand it out the first day of class and refer to it throughout the course. I also tell my students that it is a work in progress and is subject to change with adequate notification to them. I know my students use it because they mention it in class.
I really like the idea of putting the days objectives on the board. I think I will do that in my upcoming next class.
Hi Joan,
Awesome! Very similar to a calendar. Students need to write down due dates to help them remember what assignments are due. They have to much going on to try to remember everything.

I just started making up sheets with all homework assignments and tests for that class listed on it. When I assign it and give a due date, they just fill it in. It makes it easier for them to follow and everything is in one place.
Hi Judith,
Awesome ways of ensuring course requirements. Students love playing games to learn, even adult students.
Patricia Scales
Through the use of the syllabus, first day orientation discussion and calendar which highlights the date assignments are due and when quizzes will be given.
During the course, I make use of power point presentations, games and demonstrations/practice (labs) to reinforce their learning.
Hi Raymond,
Great way to ensure course clarity! You have an awesome system in place. I love how you have a beginning, middle, and ending. Your students are getting what they need.

Each morning i go over what we expect to learn from todays class, write on the board the learning objectives for that days lesson or lessons. including time for Q&A. At the end of the day i ask each student what he or she learned that day and how it will help them in the feild. I then instruct the student to follow the syllabus to be prepared for the next day of class.
Hi Raymond,
Awesome way to determine if students are grasping or not. I especially like how you do this on a daily basis.
Patricia Scales
Each morning i will go over the expected learning objectives for that day, at the end of that day students will be asked to share what they have learned.
I review the syllabus which has the objectives as well as the expected assignments listed. We review each objective but I can see where I can expand my discussion and really tie it into their chosen career.
As these are college students I have expected the students to read the assignments and follow them closely. Although I go over this expectation I rarely put in a lot of time into covering each assignment. I like a previous posting that noted putting the assignments due up on the board and perhaps posting the next assignment as well. I used to do this but it got lost somehow. I really appreciate this course bringing these things forward.
As I think about it, I stopped writing the assignments on the board when we instituted iPads, where everything is listed electronically. I'm thinking of returning to the posting on the board. Thanks.
Hi Erin,
Clarity is everything! Things should be spelled out in your syllabus in very simple terms. The syllabus is the reference tool students should refer to.
Patricia Scales
By ensuring the syllabus states all requirements clearly in easy-to-follow wording.
Hi Natasha,
Going over the syllabus with students is very important. You can provide great clarity by going over the syllabus. Most of our students will never go over the syllabus if they had to read it on their own.
Patricia Scales
I believe sticking to your ground rules are important proffessionally and personally.
I am sure to go over the syllabus with the students and answer any questions they have.
Hi Jon,
Awesome! You do a fine job with making course requirements clear. Your students are fortunate to have you give them reminders. Some instructors do not remind their students.
Patricia Scales
I give students a calendar to view online that lists due dates and topics of the course. In class, I bring it up and remind them of what is coming up.
Hi Andrea,
Wow! You do a fantastic job of going above and beyond for your students to ensure clarity! I can tell you put great effort into wanting to help your students. Thank you for being an effective educator! I would love to have you as an instructor!

Hi Nichelle,
It is always good to give a syllabus, regardless. A calendar should just be an added extra.
