Hi Patrica, Every ship needs a Captain. If there was no leadership then who knows what dirrection the class is going to take. Management is the key to guiding the class in the derrection you want to go. Planning the education of the student is the responsablity of the instructor is far as the course goes. After all thats what we are here for.

class management is important to keeping the students and the course on track. if the class feels disorganized the students will tend to think that things like deadlines for assignments dont really matter all that much. keeping to a schedule, managing your time and your students time is very critical.

Class management is about student success. It is about the basics, ensuring that you have a syllabus that is understandable, has all of the expectations, grading criteria, objectives, etc. Managing a class is about sharing with the learners to ensure that they understand what is needed, being taught, etc. At the university level it isn't about public education and students have to be there, rather they are paying to be there. You want to make the class an enjoyable experience and sometimes a learner doesn't want to be there but it is a "required" course. Having good class management also includes sharing the benefits of the course with the learners, identifying real world applicability to the learners. Kathleen
I think it is critical because students WANT to be there and if things are not managed well they are being cheated of the experience they are expecting. They expect a safe and supportive learning environment that everyone will get their needs met. They expect the instructors to know wha they are doing for the sack of credibility. Preperation and following through by instructors is necessary to maintain success.
