There are more tools available than one can possibly use but the student must have self motivation to make best use of any of the resources.
In a virtual learning environment, it is critical to understand the various components that make up the LMS and interconnectivity and how they relate to the user experience. This knowledge allows the teacher to tailor the course, modules, and lessons to best reflect learning objectives and creates as stress-free an environment as possible.
It is important to understand the course:
- Stucture
- Content
- Delivery Format
- Delivery Platform
- Support Infrastructure
It is just as important for an instructor to be familiar with the online platform as the student. If the instructor is not responsive or the software has glitches, this will greatly impair the student learning.
I've learned the generic term for a specific tool I'm already accustomed to using. Does Google Classroom count as a Course Management System? I'm familiar with Canvas through my daughter's college courses. I've learned that student attrition can be prevented through a Student Orientation Course. Of prime importance to my success as an online instructor is my ability to manage the learning environment, each learner's experiences, and providing timely, informative, and constructive feedback.
I feel that online learning has many benefits as well as many disadvantages. My concern is the student having access to computers and technology.
It is very important for students to understand the computer/technology requirements for the course. Teaching CAD/drafting can be very difficult if the student does not have access to the appropriate software in order to complete assignments. If the student lacks the technology required for the course at the beginning, the student will likely fall behind the pace of the class and miss assignment due dates.
Quality online courses hae a rational framework. The course delivery platform is the CMS, and students need to oriented to the CMS. Students need support and most of that must come from the teacher. Teachers have many repsonsibilities regarding support. In addition, technical support must be available. Course delivery varies from teacher to teacher, even with a common goal.
E-learning is different for all learning. Just like in the classroom you have to differentiate your material so that all learning styles and e-learning styles can succeed.
Interesting how instuctors use different approaches to teach towards goals.
I must learn how to deliver instruction online to be effective for my students. Learning how to get around the CMS is an important factor in teaching my students.
You really need to understand the program your going to be using inside and out so you can easily teach students how to navigate through it. Also get back with them in a timely way and keep grades current
As the instructor of the course it is my responsibility to be familiar with the CMS (online platform) and to provide opportunities that allow students to easily navigate through the course. I should also consider the method of delivery and techniques used to make the information engaging and pertinent to life long learning. Communication is also a crucical component and will need to be considered for the course to be effective.
I learned general knowledge and tips for delivery of an online class, including how to minimize student frustration and maximize efficiency.
There are things that i hadn't considered before that I will have to learn to be an effective online instructor.
Students learn at different levels and we need to know the student to apply the learning platform.
A dynamic course will have well structure content that is easy to navigate and allows students to actively participate in content while receiving timely feedback concerning completed activities.
What I have taken from this module is that in order to be an online instructor you must understand your institutions CMS. Most institutions used modules and topics. You also need learn how to perform many different task on such as looking at rosters, grading work, posting discussions, and many other things. As an online instructor supporting the students is key through things such as getting back to them in a timely manner. You also need great technical support.
A strong online course is one that engages the learner with a high level of intellectual involvement, rather than passive learning
Students definitely need an orientation to the CMS. Navigation through the CMS should be easy and flow well to achieve success in the online classroom.
