I wasn't aware that their was a blacklist for High school diploma's which means that we do not accept them as valid.

We use terms like... passion and desire to be in the industry.

Some of the terminology is constant accross admissions, however, some concepts are applicable to the specific program the institution offers and its requirements. For the program we offer (MD), we generally use terms like: MCAT score averages, LOR's (letters of recommendation), advisory letters, etc

Online application: A term used to refer to the form to be filled out by the student before the enrollment process begins.

"E-Sign" documents: The term used to describe a students ability to help verify identification process as an option to select as opposed to printing and faxing in the application documents.

Proof of graduation: This term is widely used throughout the admissions industry when describing a fax copy of a GED or High School Diploma before their enrollment is completed for entry to our school.

Enrollment Contract - binding agreement bw campus and student
Financial Assistance - Various options for payment of tuition
Admissions Process - Process in which potential student auditions and or qualifies for program
Length of Study - class/lab hours necessary to complete program

Enrollment Agreement should go over cost, program, start date and various other things regarding the school and is not just for student information.

The Resource Notebook is an excellent tool to use for you daily admissions journey. I recently made a notebook similar to the resource notebook which held all the trainings and important information to my department and job duties, so if I had questions or needed to refer back to something I could have it readily available. I am excited that this training mentioned the notebook because it made me feel I am moving in the right direction for success.

I think we all see that rules can and will change anytime during the year. The key is to keep abreast of the changes coming up, and be proactive, instead of reactive.

Some of the terms used frequently at the institution that I work for are:

Program: A prescribed group of courses taken in sequential order to attain mastery of a body of knowledge leading to certificates, diplomas, or degrees.

Enrollment: Registering a student to take programs at our institution when such registration obligates the student to pay our institution tuition which obligates our institution to provide instruction to the student.

Enrollment Agreement: The Enrollment Agreement or EA as we usually refer to it as is a legally binding contract that is signed by applicants to our licensed institution as well as by authorized personnel at our institution. This contract forms the agreement to the terms of enrollment and provides disclosures that inform the consumers of our important policies. Once they sign the agreement they have acknowledged our terms.

Fair Consumer Practices: The honest accurate and equitable conduct of business and academic relations between institutions and the current and prospective students.

Depending on the departments a lot of other terms are used as well. The Admissions Department is expected to know and understand all terms and definitions.

Greg,
Your definitions are clear and represent your school.

Daniel,
Thank you for your posting.

Jay,
The resource notebook is a valuable tool. Once established it must remain up-to-date in order to be effective.

I always set appointments to call them to follow up usually once or twice a week as well as sending an encouraging e mail so they can keep on track. This is the most critical in the first 5 weeks of class. After that they are passed on to their student advisor that takes over the process of keeping in contact more often. I still call them at least once a month to check and tell them how great they are doing.

1) Goal - This is the target thqat the Admissions Department will use as their guide to support the overall mission of their school.

2) Support Network - These are the individuals who are the closest supporters of an applicant. Ex. Spouse, relative, friend, etc.

3) Conclusion - This is the sectiion of the Career Planning session where the student is determining whether or not to make an application to the school.

4) Presentation - The online presentation that the Admissions Repreentative will use to explain opportunities and expectations of the career that the prospective student is interested in.

We utilize interview to uncover the explicit needs of the student, application to define those students wanting to apply to our institution, enrollment defines those students who have completed the requirements of our college. Additionally we use class start date and admissions representative, financial aid advisors, new student advisor and continuing student advisor as those additional resources that our student and future student may utilize to answer all of their questions.

Alton,
Excellent! Thank you for your post.

Michael,
Outstanding! We often forget how these words change lives.

Whitney,
The enrollment agreement along with the catalog constitutes the contract.

Jessica,
Accreditation is a term often confused with state licensure. Further defining between regionally and nationally accreditation is important.

Paul,
How do you explain these definitions to your prospective students?
