The Florida Commission for Independent Education in my opinion works as a liaison with the Florida Department of Education. They set the rules to protect our students and the institution as well. As for me as an Admission officer I represent a school and they help me to prepare to present to our prospective students the choices, without confusing them. Imagine if each school were able to set their rules and regulations without an institution to protect the student’s rights.
As an Agent I work under the jurisdiction of the Commission for Independent Education. As being employed from a postsecondary educational institution, I can help my customer to protect their rights. As an admission representative I consider a plus for my job as long as I keep my notebook updated, at all times; adding my regulations and rules to it.
Jenna,
So true! If you don't keep up to date and knowledgeable, you could easily mislead the student.

It is very important that you comply with CIE requirements. This directly affects how you do your job because there are certain rules and regulations that you must adhere to. The CIE governs your institution's practices regarding enrollment agreements, fair consumer practices, and marketing. If you don't know these rules you put yourself at risk for noncompliance.
Gail,
The rules can change any time during the year. Keep up Sith trends in our sector through the state association and postsecondary education national group.
Candice,
Try looking at local resources as well such as the Workforce Boards, organizations, Chamber of Commerce, etc.
Candice,
We must always operate within the rules and laws. Compliance is the only road to travel.
Brian,
Exactly the reason we don't quote salaries but give students the research tools to find the information in the location of their choice.
James,
The rules and regs make sure all schools operating in Florida are operating in the same manner giving students the opportunity to be protected no matter which school they choose.
As an admissions representative I have a great respect for the rules and regulations. I believe in the greater good as far as Fair Consumer Practices. I did not realize that I should update monthly. I'll have more confidence knowing I have the latest information available.
The regulatory requirements help keep America's institutions from misleading students. Prospective students should know all they can so they can make intelligent choices. Regulations help build our institution's integrity.
As an Admissions Representative I have to make sure I follow the policies and procedures set forth by the institution I am employed with and also that the school is in line with the regulations set forth by CIE.
I always encourage my prospective students to do their own research. I always tell them Google and the Department of Labor are very helpful tools to find out information on job descriptions and salary range. This tactic allows the person to make the decision for themselves based upon the research they found.
There are many different markets for different positions within the IT world. All locations in the country do not necessarily pay the same amount. It is ill advisable to quote or guarantee any student any amount on a salary because of this variance. Be accurate but there are times where certain information is up to the student to research. We are a medium toward their future not an assurance. Some research is the responsibility of the student.
Commission Requirements walk hand in hand with other best practices of Professional Organizations and Institutional Rules and Regulations to help us insure that we are providing the best and most accurate information to prospective students. Ultimately this help us regulate ourselves to make sure we are doing what is best for the student.
Tung,
Thank you for your feedback.
Ilena,
The regulations protect both the students and the schools. It's the oversight that protects us all.
Renee,
The two trainings should complement each other. You need the state regs as well as company policy.
Since the FCIE demands we are up to par with our training and compliance with Fair Consumer Practices, we can feel confident that we are up to date with regulatory practices, practicing within compliance, and also ensuring we know everything about our institutions policies, programs, and services. Obviously all of the above allows us to better serve our prospects. It is easier to know exactly what is expected and to not have to worry about serious in house training that could not accurately reflect necessary standards. In house training is good of course but there should be a basis for which ALL Admissions are held to the same standards. The Commissions's requirements ensure this.
The CIE requirements help me to organize my job because we only have to follow them and everything is easier.
I think that it's a positive reinforcement that i have to take an administrative training course. Although i did look through the rules and regulation put out by the state of Florida. Many things are explained in lemand's term here in this course. I think taking this course mandated by the CIE allows me to perform my job more effectively.
Antoine,
A very good plan!
