Sue,

That's a great philosophy! When you are prepared, you maintain the self confidence needed to do a great job.

Our plan is to maintain the Resource Notebook which we established after having the CM201 class with FAPSC. We check the CIE and FDOE websites. I especially like the adage Allen sent "If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready.

Veronica,

It is optimal to have all your needed information in one place. It brings consistency and availability when needed.

Steven,

You got it! It is a constaNt process of learning, applying the concepts and learning more.

We have all the information in our intranet, in a specific section.
When a guideline is updated we have an specific meeting with the responsible of that area to inform us for all the news.
All the changes of the admissions process are also collected in our quality documents.
There is a person in the institution who advise us for all the new rules that affect us.
I usually look over this information to stay updated.

Leadership consistently monitors statute and rule changes via online research as well as participation in regulatory and state association meetings and seminars. Then train, retrain and train again.

Li,

Check out the Florida Association of Post Secondary Schools and Colleges. As the state school association, they follow trends and rule making in Florida.

Patti ,
Whatever the means, we should strive for immediate and thorough information sharing.

Tyrone ,
Training should be on everyone's calendar and be an ongoing appointment.

Currently, I check the commission's website and newsletters for updates.

We have the information relayed to us through our accreditation office. Communication with staff, training meetings, and electronic copies are all used to keep everyone informed and in compliance.

Here at our college we also have traning that really helps to keep us up to date. Which is a great help

cindy,

Excellent tip! Having a checklist is a great idea in keeping compliant.

Sandy,

Excellent plan! Keep notes from your meetings to refer back later.

As of now I currently have all the updated information on a Master spreed sheet on the computer, as the information is received it is marked off on our spreed sheet. This has been extremely helpful for my staff and I. We also have weekly meetings in our office.

Our team focuses on creating a compliance culture. This is done showing how compliance is linked to accomplishing overall objectives of the college, and the individual career goals of employees.

For example, we believe that our college will only grow if the staff within it are growing professionally. Compliance is an element of professional growth. If one is not keeping pace with advancements in his/her field, he/she is falling behind.

If you fall behind, you place your career prospects in peril. Therefore, the best way to advance in your career is to keep up with advancements in your chosen profession. For admissions staff this means keeping up with CIE rules.

Appreciation of the value of compliance has to be dyed into the fabric of a college. If someone views ongoing training as an annoyance or waste of money, I (as an administrator) question that person's career commitment. On the faculty side of the college, there is a phenomenon known as "publish or perish", which means that if you want to be considered a scholar - and be paid and viewed as such - you have to publish.

In a way, compliance on the admissions side is similar. If you want the respect of peers it must be earned through actions.

Bottom line: We feel that if you don't stay current in your field you soon become irrelevant in your field. People in this industry are smart. Really smart, actually. One simply won't be taken serious by others if there is a lack of professional growth. If one of my team members complains about learning I say "If you do not want to keep learning...this is not the industry for you".

Compliance training (along with other things) nurtures a successful career in academia, which is why it is important.

Thanks,

Matthew G. Kenney, D.B.A

My plan is to continually update my resource notebook and to attend all meetings.

Marianne,

We have to make sure that all staff are fully aware and knowledgeable of the regulations.

Patty Aronoff
