1)Our students fill out a evaluation every three weeks. the Education team follows up on concerns from the students.
2)The education managers along with the education director and campus president will pull students at random and ask them questions on how their classes are going and if they need anything to help them out during their time at school.

At the end of each course, instructors give students a course evaluation questionaire. Students are able to grade each course on different levels. They are also given additional space to write comments or ask questions. Student Services also comes to all classes and also asks the students to evaluate their department as well.

We as instructors need to look for signs from the students such as apethy or tardiness. If we can catch it early we may be able to help the students with thier problem and may be abel to keep them in school. We have a instructor at our campus who's job it is to help identify the problems students have and to help find solutions. It's hard because some of the students will not admit that they are having problems.

Each student will keep their advisor the entire way through their schooling. Each advisor will be assigned a different amount of students each start depending on how many new students there are. Usually between 15-20 students for each advisor. There are required meeting with each student, and the student will need to obtain their advisor's signature for those meeting throughout school depending on the class that it is required for. Ex: Writing and speaking requires the advisor to proof read the students resume, and review the students preferences for their externship. There is also a template for the instructors to follow and to document each meeting and what is to be covered each time.

How many students does an advisor have? Does a student's advisor change as they move through the program? Is there a training program to prepare faculty for this role?

Each student is assigned a Faculty advisor that they meet with on a regular basis. This allows that student to voice their concerns and also to ask questions and find help with those concerns. At the end of each term, the students have the ability to leave feedback for both the instructors and the classes that they have taken. The review consists of a series of questions that the students rate on a scale of 1-5, 5 being very positive and 1 being negative. They also are giving the chance to leave open responses so that if they have concerns or suggestions they are able to leave a detailed explanation. These reviews are then viewed by both the Dean of Education and the instructors and discussed, with the hope of not only bettering the class, but understanding what the expectations are of the student body.

My school utilizes an Instructor evaluation system to canvas student satisfaction with the cours and instructor. We also have a survay to deal with our support services. We also have an instructor that its his sole responsibility to coach and counsel our student that are in danger of quitting or being terminated.

We have ESI surveys. At the end of each course the students are given a survey to fill out. They are given the chance to voice their feelings. They can vent if they like, but if certain problems come up about the course or the instruction our management can make the changes needed to improve the situation.

I am not sure of 100% of the things that are done, but they are numerous. This is a great question, and I would like some time before responding. I think that every player on the team should know all that is being done so as not to accidentally interfere with any effort in a negative way. As internal communication improves, (and it is improving,) a better picture should appear to everyone just exaclty what is done and how to measure its success.

Thanks for the positive comments, Randolph. It's good to get affirmation that the system works.

Our representives give out future students real expectations from the first meeting .Students are informed of school goals and future jobs .When a student enroles student services continues to reinforce all the goals set forth by the reps thenwhen students come to class I as an instructor continue to fullfill any and all expectations and by giving more in the class than just cirricilum as in real world experances and hands on tasks the students satisfactions will be met

At the end of the course we have student evails that help us to keep a decent hand on the students needs and expectations . We also have a student council in place where students with concerns can go and seek answers as well.Thirdly , we as instructors field a lot of these situations as we are the front line so to speak with the students.

We have the students fill out an instructor/course evaluation at the end of every course cycle. If there are any negative comments, management follows up with the student.

We begin with the representives that out line the different programs to the students and then our student services follwo up on student expectations. The real job is done in the classs room by the instructors on the first day in the opening minnutes of the class.I outline what the class is about what the expectations are, tasks must be mastered and why the course is of value to the class while I am doing this I inform the students so the satisfaction of completeing the course as a means to reach thier gole

What our students do after every class is they get a chance to evaluate each instructor and our school as a whole. What I tell the students to due is be completely honest, because if they are not, then they not doing us instructors or employees any good. That is one of the ways as instructors and employees we can better ourselves.

We have a survey every thee weeks.

basicly, if we as instructors need any thing( tools, trianing aids) the the school budgets this in so we can have the the tools to train them.

Our institution has a student services department staffed with advisors that are available for academic coaching as well as personal development issues. We also monitor their attendance and grades in each course, meet to discuss students in jeopardy and ways we can work together consistently to assist. We provide confidential advising and often time the instructors coach and mentor privately before their attendance begins to slip.

Wow William you said it. We are told that it is up to us (instructors)to control retention but as you know you can only help the ones who want help. Most of my students are in late teens early 20's and some have a big chip on their shoulder. Not a day goes by that i dont remind the students that i am there to not only teach but to help them to be the best they can be but they do need to work with me. i feel i am good but have trouble reading minds.

To a certain point I agree, but we do not have the ability/authority to get involved in the day-to-day lives of our students. How do you control a student that never shows for class, or the student that misses the first two days. We can control retention using the proceses within our means, but for some students that will not be enough. At my school we offer a "wake up call" for students that are habitually late. Each course we pass a sheet around they can sign with a contact number and a time to call, do you know how many signatures I get on the average?
Usually two, yet at the end of the course I have a half dozen students sitting close to 12 hours out. You can only control the fate of others if they want help controlling it. These, of course, are just my opinions and observations.
