stress in the classroom

I am ok with all of the lesson planning, lectures etc. However, I am having a hard time associating and reasoning with the stressers associated with a noninterested student. I let it get to me when a student shows no interest and appears to be elsewhere. I have tried to come up with fun and accommidating ways for this student to bring him back to the classroom discussion. Help

Task Prioritization

I think I do a pretty ood job of task prioritization. Each day, I write down my to-do goals for the day in order, according to urgency. As my day progresses, I draw a line through the tasks that I have completed, which gives me a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. Any leftover tasks are automatically moved to the next day's to-do list, so that nothing falls in the cracks. I love the lesson's suggestion of finding a balance betweeen immediacy and procrastination. There was a time in my professional life when I experienced anxiety if I received an email or voice message that I could not immediately respond to. Since becoming more balanced in this area, my head is clearer, I feel less overwhelmed and I am much more productive!

Other Students Reporting Cheating

I taught a course before where students came to me and reported a few students cheating on an exam. I took it to the director and the dean and they both said that the information was hearsay. Basically they told me that if I didn't personally witness it, I could not enforce anything. I also couldn't punish the whole class by making them all retake the exam. In the end the director spoke with all of them as a class and they had to develop an honor code. Exams are now administered differently. I was curious to hear how other instructors have dealt with reported cheating in their experiences.

Developing games

Develop games to test their knowledge and give prizes to keep them motivted

New Instructor

I felt overwhelmed when I first started teaching, however, I made adjustments very quickly by preparing myself before class started and arriving early eased my nervousness. Also reading over the material is very important to ensure that you know what you are talking about.

Cheating students

Cheating is diminishing, students who have studied all day and night long will are not willing to allow someone copy off him or her. I also separate my students to one per table and this makes it very difficutl to do eye contact or anything. I also make sure that cell phones are put away in purses or backpacks to help reduce cheating.

Center Stage students

I find making the center stage student the observer works well, taking notes and passing out handouts for late students really changed the focus of the center stage student. I also find that the center stage student becomes more serious about his/her education.

ED104

I realize that having a syllabus and reviewing the information in class helps the student to understand the course better. Also making students held accountable for deadline is a must because they will have to do the same in the real world

Getting rid of stress

I find that getting rid of stress is a very easy thing if you take the time to do it. When not working I do not think about work or go back to work. I give myself time to do things that I enjoy doing to bring the stress and frustration level down. This works very well.

Stress Stress Stress

Stress is a good and bad thing in my book. Being in media we encounter stress everyday. I think my largest stress creator is myself and my strive for perfection. This at times can leak into my classes, but at times is good because the media world demands perfection.

Grading

Being a media professor grading is something that is very different in our world. Essentially every project we give students is very objective and not based of facts. We have to be very open when grading projects as many of these projects relate to students and their experiences.

Time managment

I must admit that I am not the best when it comes to managing time. But I have found that setting a adjustable schedule and task list always helps with courses, life, and everyday task.

class room expectations

When we loose control of a classroom we also loose the respect of the students. I find that students respect instructors who are friendly but not a 'FRIEND"

telephone/texting

I am a nursing instructor and I go to clinical site to follow-up my students for clinical rotation. The school policy is not to give out telepone number to the students.Since the clinical hours start at 7:00 am, it is a big challenge for me and my students to communicate especially if students can't come to report because maybe they are sick or they are late with some valid reasons.Ex. accidents, flat tire. Our school policy is for the student to call the campus which opens at 8:00 am and to leave a message on the answering machine. At times there is no one to pick up the phone or get the message and call me at the clinical site of students's absence. Is it appropriate for the students to call each other and report the absence or tardiness to the instructor? I created a buddy system in which students share their telephone in case of emergency;we have a telephone tree. What else can you suggest?

stress

I've tried to reduce stress by getting enough sleep but, I find it hard to sleep the enitre night without waking up and forcussing on stressors. Any suggestions on how to deal with this problem?

Stress of teaching a new course

I will be teaching a course that is new to me next term and I am completely tress out over it! Any suggestionson how to deal with this situation?

teaching a new course

I've been asked to teach a course that I have never taught before. How much should rely on co-works that have taught the coure already?

Knowledge

I have learned so much from the information. I feel more confident about what I can do in the classroom.

Stress

Stress itself is a part of everyday life but I think one of the important things about all of this is trying to figure out what works best. Coping with a friendly ear I think is very effective, especially since so many people stay connected with their phones and whatnot.
