Familiarity Breeds Contempt

I find that some students want to be your friend. Then later on I find those same students wanting special treatment when they show up late or don't hand in an assignment on time. I try to be firm, but fair with my students. I always try to maintain that barrier between student and teacher. It just makes things easier in the long run.

Dishonest Student

I had a student that was one of those "apple Givers". He was combative with other students and disrespectful of all. Eventually I caught him stealing. I privately confronted him, and explained the severity of his actions. I told him I was not going to pursue it, but if I caught him again all bets would be off. The very next day I caught him stealing again. It is now in the hands of the director.

Unfocused or Confused?

I just taught a class that I found myself constantly having to repeat everything I lectured about. Upon further investigation, I found that half the class had a language barrier, and a few others had learning disabilities. Even though the students are instructed to bring these challenges to the instructors attention, they often don't. It took several classes to get to the bottom of this, and in an excelerated program that is valuable time lost.

mantaining professionalism

As an instructor, students look up to you with high expectations. By maintaining professionalism in and out of the classroom, the students will repsect you as an instructor and a individual.

Reducing cheating students

We can ellievate cheating with the classroom by giving small, mini quizzes, tests. Make these quizzes/ test unexpected. By doing this students will not have any time to preapare for cheat and will be preapred for class.

Capturing the students' attention

By implementing activities, games, researches, current events, and various discussion that stimulating to student’s psyche, not only doe it evoke thinking but, evokes thinking out of the box. This enhances their knowledge as well as self confident and success in life.

Rationale for learning

I believe that students need information about the path they are about to choose. I talk about the needs of our service in our field, the demand for excellence, the pride and show them examples through senarios.

Show example of work

I believe in showing example to the students. My rationale is because the is a hands on technique. By showing students what you are looking for in a particular situation, I believe they would have a better understanding of what the outcome is expected. As a result, this will increase productivelty in the class.

New Instructor Worries

There are many thigs that new instructors are concerned about and being respected is at the top of the list. Being able to establish themselves initially is necessary to have control in the classroom.

Reducing Instructor Anxiety

It is important to give instructors ample time to prepare for class. This helps to put the instructor at ease. Lesson plans and powerpoint should be available for subs.

Cheating Student

There are several things that you can do to reduce the desire for students to cheat. Give the students the opportunity to test more frequently with a series of exams throughout the course. This allows the the opportunity to increase their grade and the overall final exam grade. Making realistic demands when developing your exams is another way of reducing the pressure to cheat. It is important that you develop a good rapport with your students and by doing this, you will develop a sense of the student's abilities and whether or not they are disciplined.

Managing Angry Students

It is best de-esculate the problem by acknowledging that the student is upset and by listening to that student. Ask the student how you can help them.

Managing the classroom

New instructors sometimes are more worried about students liking them. New instructors are unsure how to control the classroom. Or they are afraid to disciple the students because they don’t want students to complain. The Instructors role is to set the tone for the entire class. Instructors need to manage the materials, the class flow and the students. Classroom management is a skill that needs to be learned.

Inattentive Students

An evaluation must be done and reviewing your lecture material to determine if it is too difficult or too easy should be one of the 1st things attempted. Look inward and ask yourself if you are presenting the material in a positive and interesting way. It is important that you challenge the student. It is crucial that you haev planned your lecture and be prepared. Another alternative is to engage the student by breaking the class up into work groups. This allows for students to interact and give opportunities for brainstorming.

Center Stage

I like for students to have fun during the learning process. It becomes a problem when students constantly jokes around in class.

Angry students

Students that are always angry usually have more underline issues beyond the classroom. As an instructor, I believe we should give students an opportunity to voice their opinions. I like the ides of having students write their complaints on paper. This method keeps the instructor and the student focus on the problem at hand. I also don’t like to discuss problem with the entire class, because it becomes a complaint session and nothing usually get slove.

Student Monitoring

There are many advantages for monitoring students. It can create a positive learning environment. It also allows the student the awarenness of what is going on within the classroom and with themselves as individuals. There is an opportunity to reinforces positive student behavior.

Syllabus Steps

It is important to thoroughly go over the syllabus in the beginning of a class because students need to know from the instructor's perspective what is being communicated from the written form.

Motivating students

I believe that the words that come out of instructor’s mouth to a student can motivate them or break them break. Regardless if a student is an A student or an F student our goal is to motivate everyone across the finishing line. As human, we all want praises. To keep the class exciting, guest speakers are great suggestions.
