I fully understand how being organized and prepared for each class session can earn the respect of our students. Without being prepared at the beginning of class students will quickly loose confidence and desire to learn from you.

This is something that I may not have done well in the past, but in the future I will make this an important issue.

It is important to be organized and prepared for every class because it demonstrates to the students that this is what is expected of them as a student and will be expected of them at their new jobs. It also shows them that you value there time in class and they will respect you for that.

It sets the whole tone for the class. Teaching business and asking students to be professional in their approach to the class, means you have to demonstrate that you yourself are professional and prepared for the class. This is no more than what you would expect your students to do for the class.

it is easier toconduct the class and waste less time so all your attention is on the students learning

When Organized the class moves from content to content better. There is nothing worst than a big pause in the class while the teacher is trying to figure out what to do next.

Everything should be layed out prior to class, with an extra assignment just in caseclass ends early.

First of all, when you are organized and ready to teach, it sets a good example. The students will see the way you prepared yourself, and it gives them an idea of the way they should be organized. Secondly, it shows respect for the students. It shows that you have given yourself enough time to think and prepare for the day, rather than making the students feel you have rushed to get ready for class. Thirdly, it gives you more time to think of the small details...making sure you have all the supplies and copies you need, doing any touch-ups you need to do around the class, etc.

Hi Carolyn:
What kind of message does it send when the instructor is disorganized? If it sends the wrong one, as in "I don't care about your learning", this may result in a negative long-term impact to the relationship with that student.

Hi Mark:
That's true! But we also don't want to mistakenly send the wrong kind of message by being disorganized. What would it suggest to you if you had an instructor who was disorganized?

Regards, Barry

Hi Tom:
It may send the wrong kind of message to the student if the instructor is disorganized. For example, what a terrible thing if our behavior suggests to the students that we don't care about their learning.

Hi Tom:
It may send an inappropriate message to the student when we are disorganized, something along the lines of "I don't care about your learning".

What a negative, long-term impact this could create!

Sets good standards for the students to follow, if you are always unprepared then they will never learn to be prepared

I always try to have all handouts copied for all classes along with answers to questions that students might have , but there is always that one question you do not expect, which means that the student may be looking at the situation a little different.

Being organized and prepared to teach instills confidence in your students and helps keep them focused on the task at hand. A teacher that is disorganized and not prepared actually distracts the students from their goal. The students spend more time wandering what crazy way the teacher is going to show up to class that day and so foth.

Hi Jay:
Absolutely - and, what kind of negative message might it send the student when we are disorganized? Can you imagine the potential negative long-term impact it would have to the stdent's perception of the instructor if we are sending the message "I dont care about your learning" just by being disorganized?

Regards, Barry

Hi Trish:
The bad thing about coming across disorganized is it may cause a loss of credibility in our ability to instruct, or even worse, possibly send a negative message like "I don't care about your learning".

Hi Rose:
It may send the wrong kind of message to the student if we come across disorganized, something along the line of "I don't care enough about your learning to be organized". You can imagine the negative impact to your relationship that message might create.

Hi Pamela:
The issue with being disorganized is that it may send the wrong kind of message to the student, one that says "I dont care about your learning". If that were to occur, what kind of long-term impact would it have to the student's respect of the course and with learning altogether?

Regards, Barry

Hi Laura:
That's very true - to echo your sentiment, it may send the wrong kind of message to the student group if we disorganized, a message that might cause a long-term negative impact to their idea of the class and learning altogher.

Regards, Barry

Hi Melissa:
Using a disorganized approach will undoubtedly result in a disorganized outcome. If the class is all about discussion and opinion, this may be fine. But if the student is expected to demonstrate and measure what they have learned, this approach just wont work.
