It is extremely important for instructors to be organized and prepared to teach. Instructors should arrive at their class at least 15 minutes early in order to be set up so they can meet the students as they come into class. This will give valuable insight into each student's life and how each students is getting along with your work. Being on a one-to-one bases the students will tell you if anything is going on in their lives that might affect their school work.
It is extremely important for instructors to organize and prepare to teach the course so the students will know what is to be taught and in what order. I start each class with a review of the previous class then I add some new information. As each student is leaving the class they tell one piece of information they learned today. If the student is shy he/she may write what they learn on an 5 x 7 index card.
It sends a clear message to your students that you value their time and you are ready to teach. It also instills confidence in the student/teacher relationship
Being unorganized implies the instructor has not spent adequate time preparing for class. How can the instructor expect the students to prepare properly if the instuctor has not?
Adult students havd paid dearly for their courses. They want their money's worth. Wasted time is very irritating to most people, but even more so to these students. When the teacher is ready; they are ready. The time flies, and they feel like the effort, time, and all that money was well spent. The students want the instructor to be prepared, prompt, and professional.the teacher must be the model(much like a parent) for the student.
Instructors must lead by example. If we come to class organize then we cannot expect anything more from our students.
When I am organized and prepared to teach, I feel more confident in front of the class. I feel as if I am better prepared to handle bumps in the road and unexpected glitches.
Additionally, students can easily perceive if an instructor is organized and prepared. They will more readily respect a prepared instructor. This helps improve classroom management and prevent discipline problems.
We need to be on point with all materials to make sure every aspect of the course is covered.
I think it important to show respect for the students by showing them that their time si valuable and that you respect the time they put into attending class.
By being organized the instructor is teaching, (without saying a word) professionalism. Students will watch to see ow organized the instructor is and this will reflect in the content of the course.
It is critical for instructors to be prepared for class, because it sets the tone for students and provides a pathway for them to follow.
It helps the student to learn and understand the lessen being taught.
It helps the class to run smoother. It also helps to build the students confidence in the instructor
It gives the students the message that you are professional and ready to teach.
It is important because if you're not organized your students will recognize this. They may take advantage and "take over" the classroom. In order to keep control of the class a well organized and prepped lecture or activity is important.
When you have everything prepared ahead of time you do not need to waste class time getting prepared. When you aren't ready for class, there is no reason for the students to be ready for class. If you don't respect your students enough to be on time and prepared, they won't respect you either.
It is important to be organized and prepared because it helps with the structure of a course. Students will see the effort the instructor puts into the class and will try to strive for the same effort. Being organized also allows the instructor to be able to deal with situations that come up in class and be prepared to deal with them. When an instructor is not organized the students don't always feel the instructor is ready, able, and wanting to be there. If the instructor can not take the time to be organized and prepared for a course then why would the students want to.
This is one of the most important parts of being an instructor. You are a role model from the beginning of class to the end of the session. It is a must that you have everything prepared so that class will run as smooth as possible. Your focus should be on your students and their needs not on the equipment or the information you need to have prepared for the class. It also allows you to have a productive day and focus on how the students are taking in the information you are teaching them.
Students at our school think that we are true experts and professionals. This organization must ensue with the first class day and continue throught the rest of the quarter.
Hi Margilane:
Sure, when students see that a teacher has put a lot of time and energy, thought and preparation, and planning into a class, they'll realize the teacher cares, is interested in the subject matter, and is enthusiastic about sharing it. Students appreciate teachers who are prepared.
