The goals I have for my students is to do well in my class which will help them do well in their profession as an Registered Veterinary Technician. I have many goals for my students which are educational as well as developing as a person in general.
Michele,
Interesting point. think there needs to be a basic foundation of learning, along with a desire for lifelong or continuous learning. With that, we';ll have helped for both the present and future needs of our student graduates.

I believe that the goal of educating students is to create a curiosity in them so that they will desire to learn and so that the learning becomes a wanted process.
Erica,
Lifelong learners make good employees; many times so good, they move on to better job opportunities. I think if we train our students well, and i9nclude the ability to think critically, they will be successful both at work and ion their personal lives. Lifelong learning translates to lifelong successfulness.

The goal of educating students involve a combination of all the terms learned in this course: training, instruction, and learning. We train or instruct students in the content they need to become successful in thier career. They are to take all the information learned from this instruction and apply it in their career and daily life situation. I like how the course brings out that education is "life long and all-inclusive". As instructors, part of our job is also to develop that inner desire to continue to learn.
Derrick,
Good goal. I would add, effectively applied skills along with critical thinking abilities. If we can convey these, we'll have helped the student both at work and in their personal life as well.

My goal for educating my students.. is for them do be able to apply their skills out in real world.
John,
Yes, we want retenhtiuon. Also, retention of information that leads to successfulnesss on the job.

Vicki,
Great! We never know what a difference we may make in ones life. Some are very successful due to our efforts.
Barry Westling
The goal should be maintaining an acceptable level of retention. Teachers need to develop meyhods that ensure instructional delivery.
The goal of educating students is to help them learn to critically think, to see things differently and to apply this knowledge within their course of studies, career and life. To help them understand the transition from student to professional, one level of learning to the next. Indeed, that education is lifelong and all-inclusive!
Norman,
This is why students come to us in the first place. If don't at least do that, students will not be satisfied.

Monica,
Yes, and much of what you describe can be classified as ssoft skills, which unfortuna=tely, these days, more and more students appear in our classes not possessing a clue about their importance in the work setting. We can try to incorporate courtesy, dress and grooming, hygiene, and professional language into our training - some will get it, others won't. Correcting these essential life skills for success on the job is often received as criticism, or the student just doesn't get it (or value it's importance). It's unfortunate. But we work with who we have and try to make a difference.

I also have certain goals for educating my students
I want them to be able to get out into the real world with the knowledge that they need to be capable of doing their job.
To provide the students with the skills (critical thinking and skill application) and knowledge they need to be successful in the health care field. This also involves professionalism, communication, caring behaviors, understanding the importance of advocating for the patient, and maintaining an active license upon passing the national exam. Students sometimes fail to realize that their actions can affect their licensing status with the state board.
Daniel,
Yes, and assisting with soft skills is among those that are necessary. It's odd that many students either don't recognize the importance (or don't care), and soon learn that an employer puts just as much weight on attendance, dress and grooming, language, etc., as they do technical expertise.
Barry Westling
I believe that the main goal in educating students is giving them the necessary tools to perform adequately in the real world. Technical, soft and critical thinking and reasoning skills should be encouraged at all times.
Aldorey,
Giving the knowledge and skills to provide a more meaningful life and hope for a better future can only help students, regardless to whatever degree students actually achieve these lofty goals.
Barry Westling
Aldorey,
Great sentiments. If all of these goals could be achieved for all our students, we truely will have done a great deed in this life.
Barry Westling
You should be proud of yourself. As an instructor you have done the best thing you can do which is to educate them and develop their skills. It is up to them and how the students will apply this in the real world! Remember you have done your part as an instructor and they will need to do the rest. That's all you can do...
